Friday Focus - Tim Holtz' Tags

Hi everyone, it's Buttons here. Welcome to the regular Friday Focus feature at Frilly and Funkie. Normally we take a look at one product range, but as you will know there is a huge sale on at The Funkie Junkie Boutique through to 7th July - 10% off all items, including the already discounted Tim Holtz/Ranger and Melissa Frances lines.

So my focus this week is on the new Tim Tag Products section at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. This means you won't have to hunt for the items you need if participating in Tim's 12 Tags of 2013 challenge. And here's my take on this month's challenge...

It's a tag book, so you have a few more pages to see as this post continues - oh yes, I decided to go to town on my entry this month! The reason? I'm celebrating having successfully secured a place on one of the Tim Holtz workshops being held in the UK at the end of August (whoopee!!) and have made a little 'thank you' gift for Tim.

It started with a couple of Linda's tags which I creased to create book pages. Then that fabulous rolled stain technique featured on Tim's tag. Oh how wonderful and not difficult to do either! All the edges were distressed with Walnut Stain Distress Ink in preparation for decoration. You can see here Mr Holtz in dapper garb with matching crown, stamping, washi tape and rub ons.

On to the next page - bless him, the guard stood to attention straight enough to fit on a row of tickets! And staining the lace helped to make it feel less feminine. You'll see a glimpse on the right of this picture of one of the Weathered Wood CS blank mini pages I added to journal on.

Repeat stamping works well on this brayered background. Then I added an acetate ticket, the washi tape and rub ons, and crackle glazed letters. Forgot to mention, the seam binding ties were coloured with coordinating stains and stamped in archival ink.

I transformed this picture wheel with coats of metallic stain and I also used black alcohol ink on the camera. And I loved the way the mottled windows worked against the tag background. I used a little of the spare for the sentiment here.

You just knew there would be a bit of embossing in there somewhere! I chose Distress cardstock that coordinated with the ink/stain colours used throughout. Mixing Vermillion and Black Archival stamping is also very dramatic.

This alarm clock got a double hit of crackle - the Rock Candy on the bottom and then Crackle Accents on the clock face too. And I used the tiniest of touches of Walnut Stain reinker to form a shadow, blending it out with water. Even the clock face rub on layered over the one of the stamped clocks perfectly. Oh yes, and the sentiment is heartfelt. We'd love to see Tim here more often, but I guess wouldn't everyone all around the World?!

I know the event is in Coventry (the West Midlands) but couldn't resist adding this homage to our capital city. The 'iron railings' were created using grungepaper with coats of Distress Embossing Powder and Brushed Pewter Metallic Stain to give a really textured feel. I was also pleased with the way the rub on worked when the St Stephen's Tower was stamped/masked.

And here's the back page. Two sets of suitcases were stamped, coloured with stains and fussy cut to add a touch more interest to the pile. I've also highlighted the date of the workshops on the passenger coupon rub on. Obviously I'm crossing my fingers Tim likes it when he receives it in August. In the meantime I will be entering it into the July tag challenge.

And don't forget, you can find all the relevant products at The Funkie Junkie Boutique, taking advantage of the sale prices up to July 7th by using the coupon code 10Off.
Until next time take care of yourselves, hugs Jenny xxx
