Hello, it's Cec here and today I am presenting the Friday Focus. It is all about Dylusions Ink Sprays and for the next week Linda will be offering them at 15% off their already discounted price. Just pop over to The Funkie Junkie Boutique and click on the Friday Focus button on the top bar to make your selection.
This product comes in a wide variety of colours and they are quite bright and vibrant , which at first thought may not make you think vintage or shabby chic but stay tuned and I will show a trick that will convince you otherwise.
First though, I will show you how I made this art journal page, which shows that I also have a funkie side.
First I used some Glue and Seal to glue two pages together in order to give it a bit more strength and to try and prevent warping. I think next time, I might glue 3 pages together. I did not seal the page I was working on but you could because a smoother surface allows the ink to run more. I also did not spray the page with water first but that too will allow the ink to run. Below I will show you why I didn't want a smooth surface to start. Once the page was dry, I randomly spritzed Lemon Zest. Dirty Martini and Vibrant Turquoise on my page.
Instead of mopping up the excess with a paper towel roll as many tutorials show, I mopped mine up with a sheet of cheap card stock. Then I re-sprayed my art journal page to fill in the blanks and mopped some more up with my extra sheet. Only once I had enough coverage on my art journal page, did I "dry" it with the paper towels and set it aside. Then I spritzed some water on the my kraft sheet where I had overspray and mopped that up on my extra sheet so I didn't waste anything.
Next I used stencils to add some interest to my background. The first one was to remove colour rather than adding it. I laid the stencil down and spritzed some water through the stencil and then with the stencil still in place, I blotted it dry with the paper towels. I did this in opposite corners.
Next I used a different stencil to add some Translucent Embossing Paste. Once this dries, it leaves an embossed design that is shiny and see-through so you can see all the variations in your sprays.
Finally I did some traditional stenciling but using Archival Ink since it does not react with water. Tip: Use some Rubbing Alcohol to clean the Archival Ink from your stencil. I used this bars stencil and one with teeny tiny dots.
Before I started to embellish my page, I did more experimenting with the sprays. I used some glossy card stock and sprayed it randomly as on the left and then spritzed it with water before I dried it. For that one I used Vibrant Turquoise, Lemon Zest, Dirty Martini and Crushed Grape.
I sprayed the one on right with Crushed Grape and Bubblegum Pink after I spritzed the card stock with water and you can see the colours ran together. I also made another one with Bubblegum Pink and Lemon Zest, which gave me some orange to work with.
Many of the embellishments were made from the extra sheets I sprayed and many were made by drawing through stencils with an ultra fine black pen and then fussy cutting them out. This method was used for the branches, the leaves, the sun, the small orange flower and the little pink flower.
To make the red flower, I glued an old book page to a sheet of scrap card stock and then punched it out with a Marvy Uchida punch that I have had for ages. Then I inked it with some Archival Ink.
The little purple flower was cut with the Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die. The circle flower was made with a couple of punches with the yellow layer punched from more of the book page card stock and inked with some Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink.
All the flowers have little white dots that I added using a white gel pen. Most of the flowers are popped up with some foam dots and I have added a variety of buttons for centres. The flower stems are strips made with my cutter and edged with a black Copic marker.
The large butterfly was stamped onto one of my sprayed sheets using Jet Black Archival Ink. Because it was stamped on glossy card stock, you must heat set it before you try to cut it out or it will smear. The little butterflies are punched from another Marvy Uchida punch.
Finally I made the sentiment on the computer, cut it out, made a doodled box around each word and inked each piece with some Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
Now for a vintage/shabby look from the same bright sprays.
As I mentioned earlier I tried not to waste anything so as I went along, I not only mopped up excess on my scrap card stock, I also mopped some up on one of the big manilla tags that Linda carries. Next I sprayed it all over with a light coat of White Linen Dylusions Ink Spray, which immediately calmed down the colour and made a fantastic background for something more vintage - and frilly.
I glued a piece of purple card stock on the back of the tag before I embellished it so I can use it for a card in the future. The only other thing I did to the background was to stencil the dots with some Olive Archival Ink.
Next I added a strip of Venise lace that I inked with some Vintage Photo DI. The little girls are stamped from a Darkroom Door collage stamp that I was given and then fussy cut. I coloured them with some Victorian Velvet and some Dusty Concord DI. The sentiment is stamped from a Wendy Vecchi stamp set and inked with Dusty Concord DI.
The hearts were hand cut from Tim Holtz Grunge Paper. Both were inked with Victorian Velvet DI and then I added a layer of Wendy Vecchi Crackle Embossing Paste to the large one and some gems from the dollar store.
The butterflies were cut from the book paper card stock with a Martha Stewart punch and then inked with some Tumbled Glass DI. The flowers came from my stash and I added a little wire swirl. The pink fibre is also from my stash and then I added a couple of loopy bows made from burlap string and topped it off with a button.
I hope these projects will inspire you to pick up some Dylusions sprays and create.

Welcome to today's Guest Designer, Maryanne!
Today we welcome Maryanne Gross of Zingala's Workshop as our Guest Designer. Maryanne was chosen by the DT as the winner of the 'On The Runway' challenge. Let's find out more about Maryanne and take a look at her fantastic project.
My artistic life began with fiber and fabric. I did needlepoint and quilting, knitting and crochet. The quilting turned into making wearable art jackets and vests. I also taught wearable art techniques. While I was doing all of that, my daughter was doing a lot of paper art. I loved what she did but I was so busy with fabric that I resisted getting involved in another “thing to do”! But, since I was adding beaded detail to some of my jackets I soon started doing beaded jewelry. So, I had added another “thing”. Gradually I stopped teaching and making jackets but the jewelry continued and I added wire and metal to the beads.
Then around 2010 I created a little Christmas cottage out of paper for a challenge that our local paper arts store was having. That did it! I was hooked. I still thought my daughter’s little cottage looked better than mine but the die was cast and I kept on going. My favorite thing is mixed media which is good because my stash of fabric, lace, ribbons and buttons among, other things is still enormous! Now I find that a lot of my time is spent doing mixed media and paper art. I especially love dimensional projects. Tags are another of my favorite things to do.
I’m so honored to have the opportunity to be the Guest Designer for Frilly and Funkie this time around. I had a great time creating my little pop up card. I hope you enjoy it!
I was very excited about this theme on Frilly and Funkie! I grew up 30 miles from Atlantic City , New Jersey and our summers were spent with long days on the beach! As a child it was a glorious way to spend the summer. I decided to make a pop-up card for my project. Last year when I saw the Artistic Outpost stamp set “Boardwalk” I had to have it. It features Atlantic City in its golden years. From the late 1800’s to the mid-1900’s Atlantic City was the place to be and be seen. I chose to feature that time in my pop-up. With the Steel Pier in the background and a bathing beauty with her parasol, a child playing in the sand and beach balls flying through the air, it was an idyllic time to be at the beach! I created striped awnings for the folded panels and put Atlantic City beach tokens on them. For a detailed description of how I put this together please visit my blog.
I'm sure you will agree that Maryanne's pop up card is amazing and will have given you even more inspiration for the current challenge, 'Vintage Seaside'. If you too would like the opportunity to join us as a Guest Designer all you need to do is join in, so what are you waiting for!

Saturday StepXStep
Hi everyone, Linda here with this week's StepXStep. I have a very easy tag to share with you this week. I still have a couple of Apocathary sets from Artistic Outpost left in the boutique so I thought I would make something using it. Being so busy with the boutique move this week I didn't have a lot of time to play so the result is a tag.
I started with a jumbo manila tag an
Next it was stamped with white craft ink and the text stamp from Paper Boy set.
Then I stamped several other stamps from the set with Fired Brick distress paint to finish creating the background of the tag.
The prescription sheet and the tonic bottle were both stamped with Jet Black archival ink on white card stock and trimmed out. Then I used Vermillion archival ink to stamp a sentiment from the Chalkboard Wisdom set as well as the little stamps from the Apothecary set. I wanted to make them dimensional but different heights so I used craft foam on the back of the bottle to give it the most dimension and several layers of scrap card stock on the prescription sheet for just a little lift.
Since I already had introduced a splash of red, I carried it through by adding red glittered accents - a heart and Rx.
I cut the accents from plain gray chipboard and stained them red with Barn Door distress stain (since I don't have Festive Berries distress stain). When using the distress glitter, you should stain/paint/ink the substrate the same color as the glitter.
Next I laid down a good layer of Glossy Accents and sprinkled on Festive Berries Distress Glitter.
Don't press the glitter down into the Glossy Accents. Let it sit of for a few minutes and then tap off the excess glitter.
My little tag was topped off with red dyed seam binding.
I hope you are having a great weekend!

And now over to Nancy with her fantastic Friday Focus!
Hello! It's Nancy here today, and it is my honor to present this 'joy' banner for the Frilly and Funkie Friday Focus. The focus this time is on Venise Lace Appliques, and for the next week Linda will be offering an additional 15% off these gorgeous products at The Funkie Junkie Boutique!
I began by cutting my banner shapes from Maja's Vintage Springtime Basics paper collection and layering them on to Tim Holtz Grunge Paper for added strength. I crafted the top of my banner with venise lace appliques. I love working with them as they add a shabby chic touch to absolutely everything. I've layered several pieces to craft the tops of my banner. You can purchase this product line in white or hand stained by Linda. I've used a sampling of both here.
The base layer for the top was originally white. I wet down the lace applique and stained the front of the above piece using a mixture of Shaded Lilac and Milled Lavender Tim Holtz Distress Stains. It was darker than I liked so I gave it several good rinses under the faucet. After it dried I found that the back (originally the unstained side) of the piece was the perfect shade to match the papers. The next layer of my topper is a heart stained in a mixture of Spun Sugar and Tattered Rose using the same technique. The tiny flower buds in the center of each heart arrived perfectly hand stained by Linda!
For the pale yellow topper I used a mixture Scattered Straw and Antique Linen in the same method as the other stained pieces. Once again the back of the piece was just the right color for my banner. The center heart was stained in the same way as the lavender banner topper, but came out looking more blue. It ended up being just right for the creamy base layer.
The pink topper is once again the Spun Sugar and Tattered Rose Distress Stains, the unstained back becoming just the right shade for the papers after a few rinses. The center heart is stained in the Scattered Straw and Antique Linen.
The letters were cut using the Alteration's Word Play die and Grunge Paper, then painted with Tattered Rose Distress Paint. The plain center circles were cut using Alteration's Sized Circles die and Maja's Vintage Springtime Basics paper collection. The Venise Lace hearts were beautifully stained by Linda, adding the perfect finishing touch for my banners.
Once all my pieces were completed I adhered them to a length of lace using Ranger Inkssentials Wonder Tape. It is the strongest tape I've ever used and perfect for use with lace. I added some lace bows around each banner piece and attached some more of Linda's stained rose buds to the center of each.
Thank you so much for visiting today! Don't forget about the 15% discount on Venise Lace Appliques at the Funkie Junkie Boutique! Once you try Linda's stunning laces you'll be as addicted as I am. I wish you a week filled with joy and crafty fun!
Hugs,
