Guest Designer - Autumn Clark

It is time to introduce you to the Guest Designer for our All Lined Up challenge.  Please say hello and give a warm welcome to Autumn Clark of Sew, Paper, Paint.  Autumn was the Design Team's favourite from the Let the words do the talking challenge.

"I am married to an amazing man, and my biggest supporter. We have four children, yes four! I work full time as a church secretary. I have been stamping for over 15 years. Creativity is my outlet, passion and purpose. I define my style as grunge meets elegance.

Though I love to distress everything, I like to balance my work with a touch of pretty and neat. In addition to stamping, I love to draw and paint and have found that mixed media allows me to blend these skills and create rich artwork, filled with depth and texture.

I am thrilled to be joining the amazing talent at Frilly & Funkie for this month's All Lined Up challenge, which I must say is such a cool theme! This design team never ceases to inspire me and I am honored to be here."

"I had a full on stamping, mixed media party at my table creating this project. All of my favorite supplies were invited. I began by building layers of chipboard strips to create some texture over a Scrabble game board, then added some crackle, watercolor crayons, and Infusions powders. Some of my newer stamps came out to play, resulting in a very moody mixed media creation. Find the details and a step out on my blog."

After you check out the details of Autumn's fabulous creation, come on back and show us your creation with lines. The challenge can be found here and runs until July 26th at 11:55 pm EST so you have lots of time.

Friday Focus - Sizzix Alterations

Hello, it's Sue here and today's Friday Focus is all about Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations. There are so many of them now that is was difficult to know where to start ! A big thank you to Jenny for helping me with my choice.

I started with some Apothecary bottles that have been die cut from mount board.

I painted all of the bottles with gold acrylice paint.

Then spread Wendy Vecchi Crackle Paste over them.

I used Archival inks to colour the bottles as I wanted the colour to be permanent.

I also had some die cuts of the bottles from acetate, I used the Tim Holtz script stamps and stamped onto the acetate using black Stazon ink.

I used the cabinet die in both sizes and covered the card with paper from the Wallflower paper. I then rubbed black acrylick paint around the edges.

Next up is the Writing Desk die and I've cut the pieces from mountboard again. I also painted them with gold paint then blended some black acrylic paint over the ink pot and pen when the gold paint was dry.

Now I had the main pieces ready I turned my attention to the substrate which is a wooden Triptych. I've painted it with acrylic paint then a crackle glaze and a top layer of a lighter acrylic paint. I then sanded areas to distress the paint even more.

I stencilled over the Triptych using a couple of Tim Holtz stencils and black acrylic paint. Then I assembled my die cut pieces.

I used a stamp from the Perspective set for the main text and cut the bottom row of words off and then into separate words. I used Archival ink to colour the cardstock.

A close up of the pen pot and quill after being painted.

The word on the central panel is from the Mercantile stamp set and I covered a little tag with some more paper.

I hope you've enjoyed today's focus on Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations and remember they will have 15% discount for the next 2 weeks in The Funkie Junkie Boutique (excludes New Arrivals).  Check out the Friday Focus 15% Off tab at the Boutique.

All in The Family

Howdy! Suzz here. With the summer months we spend more time with the family at celebrations and it had me thinking about some of our favorite traditions, memories and just funny stories we tell about what we have had happen as a family. For the current Frilly and Funkie challenge "All in the Family" is to create something inspired by your family. Whether it is your ancestors, a favorite family memory or family outings, create a vintage or shabby chic project reflecting your family.

The winner will earn the chance of a Guest DT spot here at Frilly and Funkie, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. And there are Top 3 Badges for three further outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team.

The guidelines for entering are simple: create a new vintage or shabby chic project following the challenge theme, link it below to your post (not just your blog) and also include a link back to this challenge in your post. You can combine our challenge with up to 10 challenges (including this one) to be in with a chance of winning. If you are entering through a public forum please use keyword F&F. Challenge Winners - Pastels and Pearls

Happy Monday, the start of a new week and the day we announce the winners for our Pastels and Pearls challenge.

There were lots of wonderful entries but in the end the Design Team chose this very shabby beauty by Karen H. (Kaleidoscope Sparkles) as their favourite.

Congratulations Karen, you have certainly done the theme justice with this lovely pastel set of papers and all the pretty flowers, the die cuts embellished with pearls and that wee fairy peeking out.  Karen has won the opportunity to be a Guest Designer at a future date.

And now for the next three winners of our Frilly and Funkie Top 3 Badges; this week's choices are... #24 Julie, #29 Sherrie, and #32 Sara Emily!!!

And finally Random.org has chosen a lucky winner for the $25 gift certificate to The Funkie Junkie Boutique. Our congratulations this time go to #12 Jose.

A huge thanks from the Frilly and Funkie team to everyone who took part in this challenge and congratulations again to our winners. As Linda is on a little but well-earned break, please email Cec at cwcardcreations@rogers.com and she will ensure that Guest Designer details (Karen), the codes for the Top 3 badges (Julie, Sherrie and Sara Emily) so that you can display them proudly on your blog and the gift certificate details (Jose) are forwarded shortly.

Our current challenge, 'All in the Family' runs through Tuesday, July 12th. We hope you will enter one of your creations so that you too can have a chance to win.

Saturday Step x Step: Shabby Chic Home Decor

How to Create Shabby Chic Home Decor with Waste Corrugate Cardboard

Hello, Friends! It's Kathy here with today's Saturday Step x Step Tutorial. I've created an easy to follow Snapguide for this Shabby Chic Home Decor piece that I made for the All in the Family Challenge that 's going on right now at Frilly and Funkie.

This is a reprint of my mom and dad's wedding photo that is very dear to my heart.  You could easily substitute your own favorite family photo.

This piece measures 6" x 8" and is made with corrugated cardboard packing material.  I had quite a few nice pieces left from our recent move, and couldn't bear to toss them out.  They make a great alterable surface.

I was able to pull this piece together on a lazy Saturday morning.  I love almost instant gratification, don't you?

Here's the Snapguide so you can follow along.

Check out How to Create Mixed Media Shabby Chic Home Decor by Kathy Clement on Snapguide.

I hope this inspires you to get your mixed media goodies off the shelf and have an inky good time. And don't forget to share your All in the Family project with us on the Frilly and Funkie Blog. We love it when you play along with us!

You'll find links to the Funkie Junkie Boutique products I used below, and there is a complete supply list within the Snapguide tutorial.

Thanks for stopping by!  Now go get your craft on!

Cheerio,
kathy
