We have a new addition to the extended family who is planning to arrive in June. There was a lovely baby shower planned for April which unfortunately was cancelled due to the events we are all facing right now. That didn't stop us from ordering the gifts and planning a surprise for the mom and dad to be. They set up outside on the porch a surprise shower with all the gifts placed there for them to pick up and open later.
These gifts were wrapped inspired by the sweet animals found in the zoo friends.
I created with creating a tower of giraffes. (I had fun looking up what groups of animals were called!) first started with creating groups of cats:
The giraffes were cut from papers, left over ledger sheets and plain white cardstock.
With every pass you get a clowder of cats:
Then there was my herd or parade of elephants:
I have to admit the elephants had me playing with their herd the most. I spent some time adding rosy cheeks and coloring in the ears. The little hearts and circle cut outs make adorable water spray for the elephants.
I also had lots of beautiful Koala's which I learned like to live individually so they are typically just called a colony.
Once I had all these different animals cut and ready to use, I started looking for things I had on hand to wrap the presents. I pulled out all my stored pieces of kraft and scrap papers given to me when buying fragile items or from packages used for protection.
I then used a stencil and sponged the yellow starry background.
The giraffes all received a sponging of yellow dye ink over a white cardstock. The circles were sponged with blue ink and placed randomly over the giraffe. The edges of the giraffe were sponged with brown dye ink.
I found a very old die for a bird on a tree branch and die cut several trees. I sponged it to coordinate with the polka dots. The grass is fringe died with a bit of green and brown.
I finished the top with a sweet sentiment stamped with the same blue dye ink.
I wrapped this with some leftover kraft paper. After it was wrapped I placed the stencil over the top and sponged on the purple distress oxide ink. I repeated the pattern until the top was covered.
Next I took another branch and sponged it with blue oxide dye ink. The Koala was sponged with a mix of purple and blue inks. The ears were sponged with pink ink.
To get the pieces to adhere they had to be heat set to take the moistness out of the ink. The sentiment was stamped using archival ink.
Next up was my elephant parade celebrating the baby shower.
I wrapped the present up with some more off white paper. The elephants were die cut from white cardstock and sponged to a blue gray color. I accented with the die cut ears and circles. They were sponged with pink ink.
The background was a mix of blue and purple oxide inks over a mini stencil.
They elephants were all asked to carry a series of banners. They were lucky enough to be be parading on some fancy glitter and shiny elements.
Next up was one little elephant sharing his love by blowing heart bubbles..
I was lucky enough to find this soft print on an old paper bag from a store. I cut it up and wrapped the box. I then die cut the elephant from a patterned paper. I highlighted his ears and cheeks with a touch of watercolor pencils. The edges were sponged with blue and black die ink.
It was simple to finish off with some crystals, a little fringe and a stamped sentiment.
My final project was a simple tag for a future gift.
This was sponged using a layering stencil. The elephant was sponged with a distress oxide ink and then stamped with a stamp inked up with distress embossing ink.
The bottom fringe is mummy cloth just taped down in layers.
I will share the picture of the packages piled up with all the other gifts on the back porch:
I hope this has you thinking of creative ways to share with your friends in families while we are all staying home!
