Friday Focus - Metal Foil Tape Sheets

Hi all, Linda here having a little play time with one of my favorite crafty goodies - Ranger's metal foil tape sheets.  First of all, let me apologize for the poor quality of my photos.  Don't know what happened to my camera settings but all the photos came out very dark.  I have edited them to lighten them up but they are still not great.  You can click on a photo to enlarge it to better see the details; click twice for super large viewing.  

I love including metals in my art work and it was a happy day for me when Ranger introduced their Metal Foil Tape Sheets.  I'm here today with some examples on how they can be used.  They can be used as a tape to be applied to a piece that is already constructed or you an apply them to card stock or grunge paper to be embossed and adhered to your art piece.  I like to apply them to Ranger manila card stock prior to embossing.  The manila card stock is so heavy and sturdy, resulting in such a nice crisp embossing.  For my pieces here, the foil tape was applied to manila CS.  

For the wings, after applying the metal tape to the manila CS it was cut with the Heart Wings die, then  embossed with the new Rivited Texture Fade and Black Acrylic Paint Dabber was applied.  I let it sit on there for a few minutes, partially drying, then wiped almost all of it off with a paper towel.   The same process was used with the heart.  

I created a frame using the Styled Labels and Mini Labels dies, again applying the metal tape to manila CS, die cutting and then embossing.  Then I played around with the new Vintaj Patinas that Ranger partnered with Vintaj to created.  This was the first time I have used the patinas.  I thought they would be like alcohol inks, but they are a bit thicker consistency, almost a cross between acrylic paint and alcohol ink in consistency.  They are fast drying so you need to work fairly rapidly.  I broke out a Rusted Hardware set of three patinas and painted the frame. 

I let the patinas dry for a few minutes and then sanded it with my Tim Holtz Sanding Grip.  When using the patinas on metal, Vintaj has a reliefing block for sanding, but I thought since the metal tape was very thin, I would use the sanding grip (my sand paper is pretty worn resulting in a fairly gentle sanding).  

For my third example, I used the foil tape with alcohol inks.  My flowers were cut with the Tattered Florals die and embossed with the Bubble texture fade.

I dripped Stonewashed alcohol ink directly onto the foil tape and let it get almost dry.  Then I dripped Pearl mixative directly onto the flowers also, resulting in a pretty shiny blue surface.  I did not sand the high points as the alcohol ink was fairly transparent and much of the aluminum color showed through.

 And now I have a blue flower that I can use in an upcoming challenge.

Here is one more example of a way I used the foil tape on an altered book project a couple of months ago.  Here again, I used black acrylic paint dabber after embossing and wiped it off before it was fully dried, leaving lots of black in the nooks and crannies.

Saturday StepXStep... Shabby Wall Hanging

Hello everyone! I hope your weekend is going well thus far! Today I have a shabby little wall hanging for you. I am focusing on Pion Design papers because you can get these beautiful papers at an outstanding price as well as an EXTRA 15% off right now in Linda's boutique, The Funkie Junkie. I'm telling you, they are beautiful papers!

I will say, I don't have a lot of "how to" photos because, this is a very simple piece to put together so I'm  just going to show you more detailed photos instead of showing you pictures of sewing machines, inking, etc. So, first we will cut out and ink our pieces from the Pion Design papers. Using the floral tag, cut a larger tag from the pink and white polka dot paper, it is about 1/2" larger all the way around. (The photo is missing one butterfly and two border strips... I added them after I snapped this photo :)

Next, cut a piece of fabric about 7 3/4 X 5 1/4"... I used a waffle textured fabric.

Machine stitch around the larger tag and photo image.  Adhere the floral tag to the larger pink and white polka dot tag, adhere the photo image in center of floral tag. Zig zag stitch at the top and bottom of the floral tag. Cut two strips from the border paper fitting the width of the fabric allowing the edges to overlap the fabric just a bit, adhere about 1 3/4" from the bottom of fabric. Adhere the tags in center of fabric.

Adhere a crocheted doily to the upper left corner as shown in photo. Adhere a canvas banner next to doily, attach a pearl bead to a safety pin and pin to the canvas banner, adhere flower with leaf to the top edge of canvas banner. Thread button and adhere in center of doily.

Die cut a doily from felt using the Sizzix Distressed Doily, adhere to the back side of fabric along the bottom edge, zig zag stitch across the bottom of fabric. Adhere a piece of vintage lace across the bottom of fabric as shown in photo. Adhere pop - dots to the back of paper banner and adhere across the bottom of photo image. If you have not done so, cut the "From my Heart" word strip into a banner, adhere pop - dots behind the "From my Heart" banner and adhere on top of large banner. Cut a small strip from Rusty Tin Wire Net and adhere to the bottom left corner of lace, adhere the two butterflies as shown in photo. Adhere "Mother" sticker in center of floral tag.

Attach a hanger or clip to the top... I found mind at my local flea market. You could use mini hangers or clips.

FRIDAY FOCUS - Pion Designer Papers

Here is the vintage card cut out, along with one of the 6 x 6 designer sheets cut out.  This is the tag before starting to create.  I embossed and sponged the tag before adding on the fun frilly embellishments!   

Here is a card I created using two different designs of the Pion Papers, so beautiful together.  I have even stamped onto the gorgeous gingham piece of paper, so pretty! 

Here is a piece of the 12 x 12 paper that shows the four different 6 x 6 designs.  The patterns and colors go great together, perfect for pairing up on the same project.

So, onto the challenge for the next 2 weeks. It's Sue here and I have fallen in love with altering different, everyday objects. We've all got ordinary, everyday items in our homes that would benefit from some love and attention, right ?
