Saturday Step x Step - DAD
It is Cec here and I am bringing you the Saturday Step x Step feature today. As our followers will know, I am on the frilly side of the team but today I am going rogue and making something that is not frilly and is really flat with few embellishments.
Tomorrow is Father's Day so I thought a card for DAD might be in order and here is how to make this 6" x 6" card came together.
Step 1 - Dilute Iced Spruce and Peeled Paint Oxides on a craft sheet and dip a 5 1/2" square of card stock into it.
Step 2 - Dry thoroughly and then dip into some diluted Broken China Oxide.
Step 3 - Dry again and then dip into some diluted Vintage Photo Oxide.
Step 4 - Using Vintage Photo Distress Ink, add some stenciling. Note: My Tim Holtz stencil came from Michaels as part of a combo package but I will provide links below to the equivalent individual stencils that can be purchased from The Funkie Junkie Boutique.
Step 5 - Add some stamping using Jet Black Archival Ink and stamps from IndigoBlu (vintage dirigible), 7 Gypsies (clock, stars and vintage hot air balloon) and Tim Holtz (dots). Note: The balloon was stamped after I took this photo.
Step 6 - Stamp letters from Recollections Distressed set onto a scrap of card stock, ink with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and fussy cut.
Step 7 - Alter metal gears from Bead Landing and a wooden star (made by my husband) with Gold Mixative Alcohol Ink.
Step 8 - Cut a 3/4" strip of corrugated cardboard paper from Recollections and add making Memories eyelets to both ends. Ink edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
Step 9 - Thread burlap string through eyelets in criss-cross fashion and fasten on the back.
Step 10 - Assemble card by cutting stamped panel down to 4 1/2" x 5 1/2", distress the edges and ink with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Adhere cardboard strip and stamped panel to card. Glue metal gears and star to card and add text with dimensional foam strips.
There you have it - a simple to create card for a guy. I hope it inspires you to get inky and create too.

You're My Inspiration!
Hello, crafty friends! I hope you're having a wonderful summer. It's Nancy here today, with the honor of hosting a brand new challenge here at the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog.
First up some exciting news. We are thrilled to announce that we have two new members joining the Frilly and Funkie Design Team; Autumn Clark and Sara Emily Barker will be well known to many of you as hugely talented designers, and it is fantastic to welcome them
For the next two weeks our theme will be 'You're My Inspiration.' Simply find any type of image or photo that inspires you to create a vintage or shabby chic project. Please post your inspiration image on your blog along with your project, and tell us what it is you love about it. The inspiration image does not need to be included as part of your project, just on your blog post.
At the end of the challenge the team will choose their top four picks. Our first place winner will be invited to join us in a Guest DT spot here at Frilly and Funkie. Three additional talented participants will receive badges to display on their blogs. Everyone who enters and adheres to the challenge guidelines will be entered into a drawing to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique!
The guidelines for entering are simple; create a new vintage or shabby chic project following the challenge theme, link it below to your post (not just your blog) and include a link back to this challenge in your post. You can combine our challenge with up to 10 challenges (including this one) to be in with a chance of winning. Make sure you follow the guidelines, as unfortunately we have had to eliminate entrants from the prize draws in the past when they have entered too many other challenges. If you are entering through a public forum (such as Instagram) you'll need to include the words Frilly and Funkie Challenge. Also, please be sure to turn off your Word Verification so our design team can leave comments on your blogs.

The Design Team really enjoyed seeing the vintage finds you'd used and incorporated into your entries and it was a close run thing, really close.
This time we've chosen #18 Jennalee Anderson (The Papered Soiree) as our overall winner. We loved the mix of vintage finds with new ones, stitched fabrics and clever design of her entry. Congratulations to Jennalee on being our favourite for the 'Something Old' challenge and winning the opportunity to be a Guest Designer here at Frilly and Funkie for a future challenge.
And now for the three winners of our Frilly and Funkie Top 3 Badges for this challenge; the choices are... #5 Rupa (whose altered childhood book deserves special mention as another real favourite) #4 Irena (with a magnificent altered vase) and #1 Roshini (who shared several gorgeous altered bottles)!!! Please email Linda at thefunkiejunkie@gmail.com for the codes for the Top 3 badges so that you can display them proudly on your blog.

Friday Focus - Sizzix Texture Fades & Dies sets
Hi! Suzz here. It's Friday! Yeah!
Time to celebrate with a new Friday Focus which is all about the Sizzix Texture Fades & Dies sets.
The Sizzix Texture Fades & Dies sets are currently available at The Funkie Junkie Boutique an extra 15% discount through June 22nd!
I had so much fun playing with a mix of dies and embossing folders and have a few photos to share of the different pieces and projects I created along the way.
First off is a lovely Faith Journal:
I started with the lovely dragonfly die and embossing folder.
I used the dragonfly embossing folder to emboss a piece of cardstock which had a mix of Ranger distress oxide inks smeared over the surface and then a layer of Ranger Distress Stain spray painted over the surface. I added shading with a black watercolor pencil to make the embossed image pop.
I put this piece of scrap onto a painted black journal cover and then added more sprinkle of white paint, silver glitter and a beautiful key.
While playing with the dragonfly I ended up with more variations of the dragonfly:
The first one was just cardstock sprayed with distress stain sprays and black ink smeared over the raised surface.
The second one was a multi step process to give a thickness to the dragonfly.
The first step was to die cut the dragonfly from cardboard. I then applied a layer of embossing paste onto the cardboard base. While the dragonfly was wet I sprayed a sheet of tissue paper with a mix of greens and blues. I then dried the tissue paper and layered it onto the wet paste. I pressed the embossing folder into the tissue paper and paste to imprint the ridges onto the paste. I then let that dry. You can add more paint, colors to the tissue paper surface.
I used the cardstock dragonfly to create a card:
I love spraying embossing folders and pressing them on cardstock to capture an impression. You can see that in the background on this card as well as on my next card using the bumblebee.
My final playtime was with the beautiful butterfly.
I cut the butterfly out of cardboard. I then used another embossing folder to spray and stamp the harlequin effect over the surface of the butterfly. I stamped a few different images and edged it with black paint.

For this background I rubbed the ink pad directly onto the bumblebee embossing folder and pressed it onto the cardstock. It gave a lovely impression of the bee onto the cardstock. I then just stamped over the image and stenciled on the words.
