Saturday Showcase - Distress Oxides, Foam Stamps and a Gesso Resist Background

Hi everyone! Jenny here with the latest Frilly and Funkie Saturday Showcase - a weekly series designed to share ideas, tips and techniques for using the huge variety of products stocked at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

Today I'm sharing a video tutorial which uses Distress Oxides with Tim Holtz Ideology Foam Stamps and shows how to create a simple Gesso Resist Background. When combined they create the cards shown below;

Let's get started with the video tutorial;

With the basis of the background and flowers completed it just took a few more steps to create the finished card. I completed the background with further stamping using Tim Holtz 'Ornate Trims' Stamp Set with more Watering Can and Jet Black Archival Inks. After adding a little machine stitching Potting Soil Archival Ink was blended around the edges and the background could then be mounted onto black sanded Classic Kraft Card.

I fussy cut around the flowers, blended the edges with more of the Potting Soil Archival Ink and glued them in place on the background. You'll notice I added some extra leaves, turning to Bundled Sage Distress Oxide to stamp them as it coordinated with the existing colours. A few dots of Liquid Pearls (which can also be found in stock HERE) were added to the centres of some of the flowers.

You will have spotted that I ended up making two cards with the identical design - having cut out the flowers and added them to the Antique Linen background I wondered whether a different colour choice could have been better. The second was created in exactly the same way as the first, this time using Iced Spruce Distress Oxide as the ink of choice. Which do you prefer I wonder?

I hope you've enjoyed today's Saturday Spotlight tutorial video and encourage you to drop by every weekend to see what the team have to share. And don't forget, we have a new challenge, 'Elegant Jewels', running through April 24th. The Funkie side of the team will be back on April 18th to share their projects and we look forward to seeing your own jewel toned projects.

Take care of yourselves and get creative!
