Guest Designer - Alison Bomber

It is time to welcome our Guest Designer for the 'Triple the Heat' challenge. Say hello to Alison Bomber (Words and Pictures) who was the Design Team's top pick from the 'Time has a wonderful way of showing us what really matters' challenge.

Hello, Alison here from Words and Pictures. I'm so happy and honoured to be guest designing here at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog again. My crafting journey began in 2012, and I've been a follower here from my very earliest days of exploring ink, stamps and paint. I'm an obsessive crafter, and I love mixed media layers and textures and grunginess, as well as the most delicate of watercolours.

I'm looking forward to getting back to having a daily art/craft practice... it's been taking a back seat to all the sorting and unpacking and other admin of moving house to a new country.

I'm settling in a bit to my new craft space, having moved from the UK to the Czech Republic mid-pandemic, though there are still boxes waiting to be unpacked, and finding things isn't quite as efficient as it used to be yet. But I hope I'll get there soon. It was lovely to have this guest spot as a good excuse to pause the to-do list, and sit down at the craft table and play!

I was delighted with the theme of Three of a Kind, as I love working with threes, in trios, or triptyches. So I ended up with three ATCs as my Three of a Kind, but there are many more trios than that involved.

There are three individual lavender stems (picked from the garden, but altered with a bit of paint as they'd already started drying to browner shades), one on each ATC, but also two die-cut inky green stems to accompany them, making three stems in total per ATC.

There are three different insects, one on each ATC, on the Collage Paper which forms the backgrounds, and there are three different mediums involved - paint, ink, and texture crackle paste.

There are three basic colours (excluding black and white) - purple, green and rusty brown. Oh, and each ATC has three bits of additional decoration - a strip of Design Tape, one of lace, and a stamped postmark label.

And last, but for me definitely not least, there are the words... each ATC has a three-word phrase, stamped in Leaf Green Archival. I hope that fully covers everything being in triplicate!

Thanks so much to Jenny and the team for having me here as a guest - I've had such a lovely time combining all my Three of a Kind elements to create this ATC trio. I hope you're having fun playing with threesomes too.

Saturday Showcase - Stampers Anonymous - Floral Outlines

Hi Suzz here! I am sharing with you some different ways you can use the new Stampers Anonymous - Tim Holtz Floral Outlines! These flowers are versatile and offer me the opportunity to use a variety of mediums to color the flowers.

I used the flowers in this card to create a beautifully textured background.

I started by stamping the flowers multiple times on the background with versamark watermark ink. I embossed with white embossing powder. I could have used clear but the white will ensure if there is any bleeding of the ink that it won't show through.

The background was spritzed with a mix of orange and yellow dye inks. I left the inks pooling on the paper and heat set it after they had absorbed for a bit. I used watercolor paper for the background.

Next I used the lettering guide and attached it to a piece of kraft cardstock. I die cut the butterfly from the layered stencil. I then took the leftover pieces and attached it to the inky background.

I created two different versions of the background and used one to die cut a separate butterfly. I thought it would be fun to put the butterfly on a stick that I could put in one of my planters and float around.

I was thrilled to watercolor these beautiful outlines.

I simply stamped the beautiful flowers on opposite corners of the background and then pulled out the watercolors and added a slight color to the flowers. I added a sentiment from the Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz Observations set. A quick and fun card.

Next up was watercolor using watercolor pencils and a little of embossing to make the colors shine.

This was a simple process of coloring and using waterbrush to soften the colors. At the end I layered some random stamping of script and text.

I was thinking about the dapper gentleman in the Observations set and wondered how he would look with a layer of flowers.

Triple the Heat

Hi! Suzz here!  I am hosting our new challenge Triple the Heat!

August is always very hot for us in the Midwest. Our temperature can raise into the three digit numbers. I decided to use the number 3 as the inspiration for this challenge. I challenge you to use 3 of a kind.  You could use just three colors (white and black excluded), three of the same type of embellishment, three of the same images...  you decide how to incorporate the three of a kind in your project.  Make sure to mention what your three of a kind is in your post.

The overall winner will be offered the chance to be a guest designer at a future date here at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will be entered into the drawing for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. There are also Top 3 Badges for three additional outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team.

The guidelines for entering are simple; create a new vintage or shabby chic piece following the challenge theme, link it to your post (not just your blog) and also include a link back to this challenge in your post. You can combine our challenge with up to 10 challenges (including this one) to be in with a chance of winning. If you are entering through a public forum (such as Instagram) you'll need to include the words 'Funkie Junkie Boutique Challenge'. Also please be sure to turn off your Word Verification so our Design Team can leave comments on your blogs. Make sure you follow these rules as unfortunately, we have had to eliminate entrants from the prize drawings in the past.

Onto some beautiful inspiration from the team!

Guest Designer - Lyla Larimore

It is time to welcome our Guest Designer for the 'Shimmering Summer Fun' challenge. Say hello to Lyla Larimore (A Chief's Wife's Heart's 'aFire) who was the Design Team's top pick from the 'Snarky, Sassy and Silly Summer Fun' challenge.

Happy Shimmering Summer, Everyone! My name is Lyla Larimore of A Chief’s Wife’s Heart’s A’Fire blog. I've been crafting with paper in some way or form just about my entire life, beginning with making my own dollhouses, furniture, and then worked my way up to reality as a homemaker. Those skills came in very handy when my kids got into school. I spent my afternoons making whatever paper project the school's hallways needed for each subject of study, event, or holiday where help was needed. My projects since having to retire from school and photography have toned down quite a bit- but not in the sharing of it!

I’m definitely still in Summer mode here in Indiana, so my artwork is still running the Americana flavors. I’m giving you a sneak peek with a couple of photos to spur you on with ideas for shimmering & shining your way to your own make!

I’m not a fan of glitter; the only glitter I own is Tim Holtz’s Clear Rock Candy Distress Glitter, & that usually only comes out in wintertime. But, I’m happy to say that I found a way to shine- my way!! A grouping of my favorite color scheme paired with some cardstock-backed foil, and let it SHINE!
