Funkie and Frilly Challenge

Greetings Friends! Teri here and this is my first  post for The Funkie Junkie Challenge blog! The challenge is to create something Frilly and Funkie. Add buttons, lace, flowers or anything you like to your projects.

The overall winner will be offered the chance to be a guest designer at a future date here at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will be entered into the drawing for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. There are also Top 3 Badges for three additional outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team.

Guest Designer - Nancy Hill

It is time to welcome our Guest Designer for the 'Time has a Wonderful way of showing us what really matters' challenge. Say hello to Nancy Hill of Creative Moments on Camas Prairie who was the Design Team's top pick from the 'Anything Goes' challenge.

My name is Nancy Hill. and I’m so pleased and honored to be Guest Designer again for the Clock challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Challenge Blog. I have been creating cards and projects as my main hobby since I was young. I enjoy trying new products and techniques and always experimenting in different styles and mixed medias. Sewing quilts and appliqué designs are also my additional hobby in the wintertime. Even though I am retired from a career in teaching and counseling, my husband and I are ranching and farming on a prairie in Idaho. I am very active at the gym as well as watching my grandson during my daughter’s work hours. We have four children, eight grand children and one great granddaughter. Together, my grandson and I take time out during the day to do crafting. Even when life is busy around here, just a couple of minutes being creative can make a huge difference in a day.

With so many colorful flowers, butterflies and dragonflies everywhere, I was inspired to create a shabby chic card using the gorgeous Ciao Bella 'Microscomos' paper with the Stamperia 'Take Your Time'  stencil for this challenge.

Supplies: Purple and white cardstock, Ciao Bella Microscosmos paper, Stamperia Take Your Time Stencil and Stamperia Gold Paste, Cheery Lynn Designs Scallop Doily die, Wild Orchid Craft flowers and flower stamin, Sue Wilson Finishing Touches Mosaic Leaf die set, Handmade cream seam binding bow, NUVO White Blizzard glitter paste.

Adhesive: Hot glue gun and Beacon 3-n-1 Advance Glue

Instructions: Begin with a 12" x 14" panel of heavy white cardstock. Score it in half at 6″ to make a fold card base. I have heavy weight 36" poster board when I need heavy white cardstock for my card base to avoid warping especially with metal embellishments.

I cut out the doily and the clocks, snail and butterfly from the Ciao Bella Microcosmos paper and adhered to the doily. I used a hot glue gun to adhere the flowers, flower stamen and die cut leaves to the clock. I poked a hole to the center of the clock and inserted a rhinestone brad with clock hands. I handmade the cream seam binding ribbon bow and added water to the bow. I used my hands to crumble the bow for a vintage appearance before using the hot glue gun to adhere the bow next to the flowers. I glued the doily on my 5 3/4" x 6 3/4" patterned Ciao Bella Microcosmos paper.

I used a palette knife with Stamperia gold paste to stencil Take Your Time to the paper and let dry. I glued the snail from the Ciao Bella Microcosmos paper pad next to the sentiment. I used the Stamperia Take Your Time stencil with the palette knife using Nuvo White Blizzard paste to stencil some of the texture to the background for a slight touch that appears to look like morning dew. I cut out purple and white mats and adhere behind the front cardstock to the 6" x 7" card base.

Saturday Showcase

Hi Everyone, Tera Here. This is my first Saturday Showcase for the Funkie Junkie Boutique! I wanted to showcase a project using some of my favorite things... Stamps and Inks/Sprays! If you don't already know me, I am a rubber stamp addict! I also love bugs and grungy vintage things. Naturally I combined those to make a super cute and easy A2 card that you can use for any occasion!

To start I used a pale greenish white piece of cardstock from my stash. I stamped the type background in speckled egg distress ink. After drying that with my heat tool, I then used one of the large layering stencils (THS143) with an embossing dabber to apply a thin layer of embossing liquid through the stencil. The embossing powder/glaze I used was "fossilized amber"

I forgot to take a picture after I inked around the edges... I used the speckled egg, and walnut stain to add more grungy goodness like you see above.

On a separate piece of paper I stamped one of the butterflies from the specimen set in black soot archival ink. 

Before cutting it out I used the spray stains above to color my image. After I cut it i used walnut stain distress ink again to ink the edges.

Before gluing my butterfly down I added the specimen stamp and some stitches to finish off the background.

For the card base I used an ultra dark brown piece of cardstock (It's almost black).

Saturday Showcase - Graphic 45 Catch of The Day

Hi Everyone! This is my first Saturday Showcase for the Funkie Junkie Boutique! Today I am showcasing one of my favorite paper lines from one of my favorite companies Catch of the Day from Graphic 45! I love their collections because all the colors and patterns are awesome for layering.

Here is what I created;

To create this layout:

Step 1 - gather your supplies - I used the 12x12 paper pack, the ephemera pack, the stickers, and not pictured above as I decided last minute to include them is the mixed color sweetheart blossom flowers.

Step 2 - trim your papers to 12x12, 10x12, 8x12, 6x11, 6x8, 6x9, 6x4 and distress the edges.

Step 3 - gather your ephemera.

Step 4 - For dimension I use cardboard strips adhered to my paper.

Step 5 - start layering your papers as shown and add your photo (s) then add the rest of your ephemera and stickers!

I added some cardboard under a few of of the die cuts and stickers to add dimension.

Love all the dimension!

Earlier this week for the challenge I also created with Graphic 45 Catch Of The Day and I still have enough products left to create 2 - 3 more projects!
