Lyla's Fave Tim Holtz Products

   It's time again for some Inspiration Ave news! For the next two weeks, The Funkie Junkie Boutique Design Team is showing off their favorite Tim Holtz products of 2023 - so far! Tim usually comes out with more new items, especially as Fall approaches. This lull in the release cycle gives us a chance to go back and play with the things we barely had time to do more than just one project with. Personally, I love these "re-dos" because it gives me a chance to try out that design that popped into my head while crafting the one that made it to posting. Once again; I've got more than one fave product and I can't wait to show you what I did this time with it! Scroll down with me, and we'll look together!

From the time I saw the new TH The Inspector Stamp Set, I knew it was going to be a fave of mine!  The intricate detailing of this stamp is sooo good! And then, after I opened it up and saw the 'bus driver's cap' and the 5-bugle insignia, I just about swooned: those belong to a FIREFIGHTER! The other new fave product: Etcetera Facades! I'm excited to use any of the Etcetera items, and building up layers is always so FUN! These thickboards are great for making a project that will be used for home decor, or gifts; they are sturdy and long-lasting - holding up like purchased decor.

Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Crayons - Set #2

The first thing I did was to make a background for both sides of the Etcetera Tag. I keep heavy duty foil in my studio and it's easy to use regular white cardstock with some matte ModPodge spread onto it (with some Glossy Accents squirted all over) and then lay the foil down, pressing it evenly. (I like to use my rolling pin for this part.) Don't wait - run it through your machine with whatever embossing folders you're using. For mine, I'm using an older plain Houndstooth embosser and also the newer Tim Holtz Industrious 3D Folder- one per side.

I did run each folder through twice - and a third time for that tiny part on the left top.

A Black Soot Distress Crayon run all over the edges of the Etcetera Tag, as well as all around the edges of the foil, gave this a used metal feeling - quite like the bumper of a real firetruck!

I wanted a faded-out type of old red, and the newest TH Distress Mica fit the bill. Yep- it's not just for Christmas anymore! I heat dried it, then repeated until I was satisfied.

Then I dry-brushed some Black Soot Distress Paint into the cracks and 'screws'. I re-heat dried in between each new layer of distressing.

Next- just to darken that red a bit- came some Distress Alcohol Ink in Ginger. Now, it looks like an old, red, crumpled metal.

I was playing around with some alcohol inks in blues and reds, and just happened to look over to where my Etcetera Facade was laying, and found this....it sure did resemble water spritzing onto a flame...

...so I decided to try it out on regular white cardstock.

It sure did take on the look I wanted! So I heat-dried it & edged it with some Distress Ink in Fired Brick and Chipped Saphire. After I heated, I resprayed a bit more and inked a bit more. I really LOVED the result I got, which comes in the end photos, of course.

Then the fun part: using my TH Stamping Platform to ink CHIEF INSPECTOR onto some new-to-me Alcohol Ink Dura-Lar. This was my first time using this kind of "plastic' and the difference from using this and a piece of plain plastic trash piece....AMAZING!! So clean and clear!

I dug up a piece of very old TH Grungepaper that had been die-cut long ago. It fit the theme of July 4th, so I put a scrap of foil/cardstock in between the pieces for a 'leather'- the kind that used to be used on the old longer helmets.  (They like to call it a 'lid' or part of their headgear.)

The resulting Tag is beyond AWESOME!

The "51" is a nod to TV's original show on Paramedics and Firefighters, 'EMERGENCY!" and it turned out to be a huge part of my life- not just a show.

FRONT Perspective This gives you a view of the 5-Bugle Insignia that stands for the rank of Chief. I added an old TH Idea-ology Adornment- Star.

BACK

The map is from the TH Backdrops - burned all around the edges using a grill lighter.

Just plain old "rescue rope"... a LOT thinner than they really used back then! These days, rope is much better and not as prone to BURN!

Suzz's Multiple Coloring Techniques

Hi! Suzz here! I love coloring and the new Stampers Anonymous Floral Trims gave me the chance to play around with coloring in the flowers.  I know I have shared before the various ways to color stamps but I thought it would be fun to create a series of tags using the same stamp, layout and color scheme but vary the mediums. 

I spent some time stamping the image on different paper types using the same archival ink.  I then pulled out my copic markers, watercolor markers, 2 types of watercolor pencils and my distress ink pads.  I had on hand my water brushes to use for the various mediums.

The first tag using the watercolor markers.  A good stamping friend taught me her method of coloring the images watercolor marker and I have to admit it is one of my favorite techniques.

I used watercolor paper for this image and stamped the image with archival ink.  Anything permanent and resistant to water is the important thing to remember with all of these painting/coloring techniques. 

To color this image I started with the darkest color in the middle and then used the waterbrush to spread the color outwards.  I repeated to get the shading where needed.  Then I highlighted the center with a white gel pen.

On the next tag I used plain cardstock. (The watercolor cardstock would have worked just as well or even better.)

This was painted with distress inks smeared on the acrylic mat and then the ink was picked up on the waterbrush and painted over the surface.  I repeated with multiple colors to get more of a softer muted effect. 

For the next image I used watercolor pencils.  I love using pencils as you can control the placement and intensity of the colors when first applied.

This was stamped on white cardstock.  It would also work well on the watercolor paper.  The watercolor paper usually has more texture and can sometimes cause the stamp to ink as clearly.  I like to use the plain cardstock unless I need more water on the medium.  

I colored the areas I wanted to shade in and then used the waterbrush to soften and blend the shading.  I will wait until it dries and then come back in with more shading to get a deeper color in the shaded areas.  

I had a new set of Ranger Distress Watercolor Pencils and I used them on my next stamped image.  Again this is on white plain cardstock. 

The main difference on this image is I had less choices in my colors as I had limited pencils. But I used the same technique to shade in the areas of color and use the waterbrush to soften the edges.

For my last two tags I used Copic Markers to color the images.  There is a slight difference in the two images and it has to do with the cardstock.  The first one was a sheet of cardstock I found in my drawer and it is one that can be used for Copic markers but it didn't blend as well as I would have liked.

To get the movement you need to blend the colors you need a paper that will allow the ink to seep and blend.  I went out and purchased a special paper intended for Copic Markers and tried a second version which blended and mixed the colors much better.

Lisa's Lovely Tiny Prints Card

Hello, Lisa Hoel here. Our TFJB Inspiration Ave Focus this time around is on the newest Tim Holtz release from Stamper Anonymous. Fun stuff! I created an all occasion card using the Tiny Prints and Bold Botanicals stamp sets.

I used Distress Glaze to create the Tiny Prints background. I stamped with embossing ink onto a piece of Backdrops paper, then embossed it with Peeled Paint Distress Glaze.

Completed card base:

For the flower focal piece (Bold Botanicals), I stamped it and then embossed with Walnut Stain Distress Glaze before blending on the color using Distress Oxide Inks. There you go, using the powers of stamping to create an easy card!

Use your Inky Backgrounds for a Variety of Cards using One Stamp Set

Hello friends! It's Teri from TerisMailbox posting for The Funkie Junkie Boutique! The DT challenge was to use one of the Stampers Anonymous latest releases. I LOVE the Floral Trims Stamp set! SOOOO many ways to use it!

You know me....once I get started, there is no stopping me! Too much fun!  I have a video HERE if you prefer to watch the card making process.

Let's start with the second pass stenciled background. This is the background where I "printed" the stencil after spraying with Distress Ink Sprays.

I have always been attracted to rainbow colors, so I pulled out some of the brighter intense color sprays such as Picked Raspberry, Twisted Citron and Squeezed Lemonade for this one. This is the first "print" after spraying using the THS 167 Stencil Brush Mark.  I kept the original in my background box for future use. I spritzed the inked stencil, pressed it onto a piece of Distress Heavy Stock and set aside to dry.

Once dry, I set up my stamp positioner and inked one of the Floral Trim Stamps with Archival Black Sot ink. I inked the impression one maybe two times. After the ink was dry, I trimmed the image to 4.0 x 5.25 inches and added to an A2 panel of black cardstock mounted on an A2 base. I will add a sentiment at a future date.

The next card is the second print using THS167 Brush Mark Stencil. 

The second printing gives a very messy but colorful background. Additional spritzed water allowed the stencil print to wick more. After drying, I followed the same process, stamping with Archival Black Soot Ink!

You may notice the blooms are a little more intense and have moved outside the inked edges. You can achieve this look by watercoloring with the matching Ink Reinkers and adding enough water to allow the inks to wick outside the image.

The sentiment is from Note Quotes CMS 463, stamped on Kraft cardstock and die cut with a circle die. The little yellow ribbon adds interest.

I love Saltwater Taffy and Picked Raspberry mixed with a little Kitch Flamingo spritzed on watercolor cardstock.

After the panel dries, use a plain water brush to soak up some the inks in the blooms by blotting with a paper towel. What I cool look! A little Wink of Stella adds a glittery glow.

Another Note Quote white embossed on Black cardstock is a great focal point for this one!

The next three cards are the result of printing with THS143 Bouquet Stencil using different colors. We will start with the Orange and Yellow Toned Print.

This is the first print after spraying the THS143 Bouquet Stencil with Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed and Ripe Persimmon Inks. The Ink Stencil is spritzed with water and printed onto a cream color cardstock. 

Once dry, stamp the image with Archival Black Soot ink. Use coordinating re-inkers to add deeper color to the blooms and leaves. Olive is a great color for the leaves in this case. Trim to 4.0 x 5,25 and mount on an A2 yellow cardstock panel on an A2 card base.

Stamp hello frind on Kraft Cardstock, cut with a circle die. cut one additional  circleand sandwich a piece of ribbon between the circles and glue to the left lower panel from. Add a few white buttons for interest.

These backgrounds were created with the first and second stencil prints with the THS143 Bouquet Stencil. 

This is the first printing that as you can see is much darker.

Heat emboss the image this time using black pigment ink and Clear Embossing Powder. Add additional depth of color with reinkers and a waterbush. Trim to 4.00 x 5.25 and attach to a black A2 panel on an A2 cardbase. I used Sizzix thinlets 660225 to die cut the sentiment from Black cardstock.

The stencil was spritzed again with water and this second print was created. As you can see, it is much lighter than the print above.

The image was stamped in pigment ink and heat embossed just as the one above. 

Trim the panel to 3.75 x 5.0 inches and attach to a pink panel 4 x 5.25 inches and add to a white A2 card panel.

Heat emboss the sentiment from Sizzix 660189 and add to the front of the card.

Check out this very bright version! This is just a background inked with Crackling Campfire and Carved Pumpkin sprays on watercolor paper. Once dry, the image was added.

Trim the panel to 4.0 on the long sides. Mount the panel on an A2 black cardstock panel on an A2 card base. Add a die cut Hello from the Friends Die set 660225.

Last up of the inked panels is my favorite!  I love rainbow colors and this one did not disappoint!

The background is simply rainbow inks sprayed on watercolor cardstock. A little spritz of water allowed the inks to wick and blend! Love, love, love the bright colors! Spray Stains include Wilted Violet, Picked Raspberry, Ripe Persimmon, Mustard Seed and Twisted Citron.

Stamp the Floral Trim Stamp with Black Soot Archival Ink. Trim to 4.0 x 5.25, mount on a black cardstock panel attached to an A2 card base.  Die cut Believe using Sizzix Die and glue to the bottom right area.

I was on a roll, so I created another card using the Palette Collage Paper. 

The Collage Paper is attached to an A2 card panel with double sided tape. You can mute the colors by adding Picket Fence Distress Paint on the top. Once dry, stamp the image using Black Soot Archival Ink. 

Select a rainbow pallet from the Distress Paint Collection. I used Picked Raspberry, Tumbled Glass, Olive, Ripe Persimmon and Mustard Seed. With a small drop of paint on your craft mat, dilute with water and brush on the stamped flowers. Don't worry if it looks like a hot mess, because you will go back and do another stamping to darken the outlines.

Hint: tape the outline of where the edges of the card panel is to help placement for the second stamping!

Wow! I really love the look of Distress Paints on the Collage Paper!
