Suzz's Hearts & Flowers

Hi!  Suzz Here! Time to celebrate Valentine's with some hearts and flowers!  I was inspired by the lovebirds again!  

The lovebirds look so sweet nestled inside of the card peeking out from a larger heart framed with all the little hearts!  

The background of everything is covered with a soft pattern made from the bouquet stencil and some clear embossing powder. 

The images were created by laying the stencil over white cardstock and sponging over the stencil with versamark watermark ink.  Then covering the ink with clear embossing powder and shaking off the excess.  Then heat up the embossing powder until it melts completely.  

After that The hearts and birds were cut from the embossed paper and the card base was formed from the embossed paper.  The heart was hand drawn and cut out from the center of the card front. 

The hearts were layered around the edges of cut out heart and the birds were placed inside.  The single pink heart was sprayed with mica stain spray and placed over their hearts. 

My first heart card started with texture paste and mica stain sprayed over the surface and it was striking but didn't pop with the smaller hearts so this card base will have to wait until I get additional coordinating hearts ready for it!

Next I played with many hearts sprayed in beautiful shiny mica stain sprays and paired them with a pink heart placed on the front of the card.

 

This was just a smattering of purple and yellow hearts over the pink heart and some sweet lovebirds paired with the hearts.

Three different cards all using the lovebirds and hearts for inspiration!

Lisa's Hearts & Flowers

Hello Funkie Junkie fans; Lisa Hoel here! Our theme this time is "Hearts & Flowers" Valentine style. I leaned into a traditional color scheme and put together a candy box made from Eileen Hull's new Cantilever Sewing Box Die.

This die is based on the design of vintage sewing boxes. Maybe you have a full sized one yourself! They open up just like the originals:

I filled mine with candies and a little note.

Here's a look at how I put it together:

1) Here are all the parts cut out.

2) I used sections of washi tape glued at the corners to assemble all the box parts. A rubber band around the top held it all in place while the glue dried.

3) To help reinforce the base of the box, I cut an extra piece of mat board 21/8" x 6" to glue underneath the two bottom boxes.

I folded and glued the feet to the base. A little piece of washi tape helped to hold the feet in the folded position while I was gluing them.

4) Using the brads and cross pieces, you just start building up and attaching the other boxes.

5) A section of the stamps cut from the Mini Slimline & Tickets Die fit perfectly onto the sewing box lids!

 Mixed Media Hearts and Flowers

Hello friends. It's Teri posting for the Funkie Junkie Boutique's Inspiration Avenue Blog. Our current challenge is Hearts and Flowers.

I had too much fun creating the mixed media tag.

Create the Tag Base

Start by painting White Gesso on a Small Etcetera Tag. I added three layers. Use Hickory Smoke Archival Ink to stamp the Ledger Script stamp in sections over the tag. Switch to Black Soot Archival Ink and Stamp CMS369 Architecture stamp in the center. Use your heat tool to be sure the inks are set.

Once dry, use the Thorned Stencil #162 and add a layer of Opaque Crackle Paste on top.

Remove the stencil and wash off immediately. Sprinkle Lumberjack Plaid and Rustic Wilderness Embossing Glaze on top. Tap the bottom of the tag to move the glaze into the cracks and set aside to dry.

Turn the tag over onto a piece of scrap paper to remove the unstuck glaze and heat set.

Create the Embellishments

Select three Quote Chips with heart themes. Press embossing ink on the top and add Lumberjack Plaid embossing glaze to the top. Heat set.

Use the Heart from the Etcetera Large Cutout set and cut a heart shaped piece from a Back Drop set that has flowers on it. Coat with Collage medium and add the floral heart. Cover the top with Collage Medium and cover with Rock Candy Glitter. Tap off the excess.

Use Red Pepper to color a metal heart. The filigree heart was in my stash.

Use the Crazy Cat's Accessory die (no longer available) to cut two small, medium and large hearts from distressed ink smooshed cardstock.

Assemble the Tag

Select a few embellishments from one of Tim's sets. I selected a floral business card plus some leaves.

After using Collage Medium to attach to the center, glue the sparkle heart at an angle on the right side.

Dye a piece of seam binding with Candied Apple Distress Ink. Once dry, form a bow.  Use red and white twine to attach the bow as well as the filigree heart. Leave long tails on the twine and add one more strand so you have three hanging pieces to attach the heart to. Leave one end of the extra piece short as you do not need it. Glue the die cut harts to the three hanging strands and allow to dry.

The last step is to arrange the Quote Chips on the Tag and glue in place.

Janna's Hearts & Flowers

 Hello and welcome to a new theme at TFJB Inspiration Ave “Hearts and Flowrs”. For this week’s project I wanted to feature some of the die sets from the vault by Sizzix and Tim Holtz. Also we are brining in a touch for scorched timber.

Here I decided to make a grungy Valentine's Day card and a pillow box converted into a candy box. For in-depth details click here for video.

Used: Pillow Box and Bag die set, Hippity Hop die set, Distress Oxide inks Squeezed Lemonade, Kitsch Flamingo and Broken China, Collage Medium, Scorched Timber Distress Spray Stain, Metallic Kraft Stock, Neutral Kraft Stock, 3D folder Damask, Stamp Set CMS217 Watercolor, clear plastic, velvet trim, distress sprayer, Ranger heat tool.

To start this project I decided to feature the Pilllow Box from the Vault die set below. 

Diecut the Pillow Box out of neutral colored kraft stock. For the pillow box, I die cut two pieces and then creased each of the crease lines.

On one of the die cuts I cut a window out of the side of the box. Then I glued a piece of clear plastic to the inside of the box. What better way to see tasty treats than through a clear window. 

After the clear plastic piece was adheared to the interior of the pillow box and dried, I then hot glued the two halves of the box together. For some colorful details I also cut a panels of pink metallic Idea-ology cardstock to frame the window and add as a panel on the back. I embossed each segment with the Sizzix 3D folder damask.

While waiting for the decorative panels to dry, I started on a background for a grungy Valentine’s Day card. Here I started with a foundation of Distress Watercolor cardstock and some spritzed water. For colors I used Kitch Flamingo distress oxide spray stain and Scorched Timber spray stain.

Below are the finished results of the background.

Next we will be pulling in some Distress Oxide inks for some floral stamping; Squeezed Lemonade, Kitsch Flamingo, and Broken China.

For stamping I used the stamp set CMS217 watercolor.

On the background I drew a faint outline of a heart and then used the small floral stamp from the stamp set to stamps out a floral wreath with the distress oxides.

Here are the results of stamping the floral heart wreath. 

Next I wanted to die cut some grungy letters form the die set Hippity Hop. I started with some Distress Watercolor cardstock and some scorched timber.

After the background was all nice and flowy, I dried part of the background and left some water spots behind.

With the background still wet I poured Ranger gold embossing powder over the top. I then flicked the back of the cardstock to knock off extra embossing powder and create a more splotchy effect.

Here are the results after embossing. I also added a layer of Distress Walnut Stain Crayon. I smudged the crayon over the background to create a more grungy look.

I then die cut the sentiment “luv u” from the grungy background for the card.

For finishing touches on the card I also added some die cut butterflies from the Hippity Hop set out of some alcohol ink scraps. Along the bottom I added a strip of velvet trim.

With the pillow box all dry I added a die cut butterfly and filled it with some heart shaped chocolates. Below are the final results of this grungy Valentines duo.

Lyla's Hearts & Flowers

 Valentine's Day is coming right up, and there's plenty of TFJB Inspiration Ave makes coming your way for these next two weeks! Lyla, here, to start you out with the first make based on the perfect Valentine's theme Linda Coughlin, Owner of The Funkie Junkie Boutique, has suggested: "Hearts and Flowers"!

 Of course, you can guess who my Valentines will go to! This is a shorter, simpler one than I usually do, but the simplicity is balanced out by the number I ended up making. Sit for a bit and scroll down to see how I put these together...and then go try making one yourself. (You WILL, ya know... they were addictive once I made the first one!)

The first thing I did was go back to the video tutorial on folding cardstock/paper. For this, you'll need to follow the instructions on Elena Consonni's Facebook tutorial: CLICK HERE.  It begins with a cut of 27 cm length by 18 cm height, with folds on the 9cm (x3). I also used my Rotary Trimmer to cut some belly bands (for little hands to easily open) and some simple cuts of the same cardstocks, folded in half for the inside cards. This cardstock is from Tim Holtz's retired stack; Correspondence.

I chose some obvious Tim Holtz Distress Oxides for all the edges.

The TH Collector Die Set is one of those really good ones! Not only does it save me weight and room in my travel craft bags, but it's clean, precise cut! Now I don't have to carry the TH BigzL Movers&Shapers Die with me!

I wanted to make some "blanks" for the kids since they like copying what I make. So I used this die set's envelope and card cuts to make some blank sets of cards.

I also used some of the elements, like the ribbon set, to add a little pizazz to their Valentine. I do love the little closure cuts (in the lower area of the pic)!

Since the newer Vault die set is on back order, I got out the original TH Thinlits

Set; Faceted Heart- from which the Vault die comes.

I used a couple sheets of reddish and pinkish from the Vol 5 Backdrops

to cut some hearts for my cards and for the blank sets.

By just using the fronts and trimming the off the edges that would normally fold, I ended up with "Minecraft" hearts- perfect for the kiddos!

All I needed was FLOWERS- to add with the HEARTS. Everyone likes flowers, and we all like growing them.

I did make an extra- for the ChiefHubby. I used some of the TH Seasonal Kraft Core- retired cardstock- and sanded it down.
