Friday Focus

For this week's Friday Focus at Frilly and Funky, I'm creating with some of my favorite embellishments by Melissa Frances.  (Our Friday Focus 15% off products at The Funkie Junkie Boutique is Melissa Frances.)  I began with some Tim Holtz Idea-ology 'Configurations' boxes.  These sturdy and versatile boxes are a frequent starting point for me.  Then I assembled a tray of gorgeous resin embellishments by Melissa, assorted flowers, ribbons, sprigs, sprays, hearts, keys, tiny wooden spools, charms and anything from my stash that played well with the rest of the group!  I've had a 12" square, shallow shadowbox frame that was purchased years ago, intended for a scrapbook page and re-purposed it with this project...
PaperPrimrose-1)
I was torn between removing the glass and allowing the elements to flow out over the surface, and placing it under glass....the practical me won this one!
PaperPrimrose-3
I began by painting the sides with white arylic paint.  In order to place one box inside another and still keep it flush under glass, I cut out openings for them to rest in...
PaperPrimrose-4
Each box was lined with some patterned paper and embellished indepently from the others.  This one holds a sweet cherub.  A fan of gathered tulle behind it and a resin scroll at the corner...
PaperPrimrose-5
A cameo of love birds and a tiny tag held with an equally tiny clothespin rest on a snippet of lace...
PaperPrimrose-6
I punched a heart from a food box and coated it with glass glitter.  Some petals of Melissa's 'Floppy Blossom Ribbon', cut apart and adhered behind the heart that is raised up with multiple layers of adhesive foam,  gave this heart wings...
PaperPrimrose-7
A paper clock face became a sturdy embellishment after a coating of Glossy Accents.  The watch hands were adhered when the coating hardened...
PaperPrimrose-8
Another small cameo, surrounded with tiny appliqués that were cut apart, a piece of a paper doily and some cherry blossoms...
PaperPrimrose-9
A box full of wonderful paper flowers...
PaperPrimrose-10
This one is a tiny box within another box.  A resin window frame reveals a couple reading, bits of lace and doily, a cluster of millinary fabric primroses are piled above the window and a resin butterfly takes to the air...
PaperPrimrose-11
Who can resist a brown paper parcel tied up with string and sealing wax?...
PaperPrimrose-12
A resin keyhole mounted on lace and a cascade of ribbon roses...
PaperPrimrose-14
Another box within a box...the smaller one contains a tiny, 3-D paper box that acts as a table for some teeny tiny wooden spools, wrapped with treads.  A brass basket charm is filled with some more of the tiny flower appliqués you saw earlier.  The teeny weeny heart resting in front of the box was snipped off of the top of a trinket pin.  The larger box holds a Tim Holtz 'Frozen Charlotte' doll, wrapped in a scrap of lace and ribbon.  Another set of 'Floppy Blossom' petals give her fairy wings and a brass charm is adhered behind her for a crown...
PaperPrimrose-15
A beautiful, vintage style wreath with just a touch of color added to it's ribbon and a drift of flowers and buds for this vignette...
PaperPrimrose-13
A long, narrow box is filled with faceted pink crystals, strung onto wire, gathered with a bow and accented by a vintage ticket and a fragment of a doily...
PaperPrimrose-16
The vintage style resin figure views a tiny brass heart charm and key, suspended from a linen thread.  A beautiful resin bracket adds a delicate visual weight to the corner.

I've used strings of pearls and a lace and pearl trim, along with a single length of velvet rickrack to unify the boxes within the frame.

Have fun playing with your own style, color sensibilities and images that resonate with you.  I'm thinking of the next project with these little boxes...
