Friday Focus - Metal Embellishments

Hello Everyone! It's Pamellia, and I am here today to hostess the Friday Focus. I will be working with some fabulous metal embellishments and charms that Linda carries in The Funkie Junkie Boutique. For the next two weeks there will be an additional 15% discount on the metal embellishments and charms, so now is a great time to stock up!

Instead of making just one project, as I usually do, today I have decided to showcase some of the projects that I have made in the past. I am addicted to metal embellishments and I'm always experimenting with ways to alter them to add interest to my projects. As I looked back through my folders, I realized that almost every card I make has at least one metal embellishment on it, there's no escaping the fact that a touch of metal adds something extra to every creation!

- for this first one, I altered a sweet little set of mittens charm. They were very shiny silver and I wanted something similar to white gold, so I sprayed them with distress spray Brushed Pewter and then dabbed on a little Ranger Archival ink Coffee.

- for this gorgeous silver centrepiece, I wanted to mute the silver a bit so I painted the piece with Black Soot distress paint and then dabbed some Brushed Pewter over the surface.

- this bronze flower embellishment was painted with Black Soot distress paint and then I added some Ranger Weathered White Antiquities embossing powder to give it a shabby, vintage look.

- for a muted, shabby look, use Distress Paints to change the embellishments from metallic to whatever colour you like. I used Picket Fence on these filigree corner pieces.

- for a more elegant, eye catching embellishment use embossing powders to change the appearance. I used Ranger Gold embossing powder to turn a bronze flower into a lovely gold one.

- for a thicker coating or for a more unique look, you can use Gesso, Texture Paste and even Crackle Paste to alter your embellishments.

- alcohol ink is an amazing way to alter your metal pieces. Use one colour or you can combine colours like I did on this bronze metal word charm. I used Stream, Indigo and Sailboat Blue for this wonderful water inspired piece.

- of course, these embellishments are so beautiful in their original state, that you may not want to alter them at all. I bent this large copper filigree piece to form a bridge centrepiece. And you can always just add some bling to the centers of your metal pieces to jazz them up, like I have done on the bronze filigree piece and corner embellishment!!

- instead of dressing up the metal embellishment, let it stand on it's own. Tuck it in the corner, underneath some flowers, sticking out between layers...the possibilities are endless!

With such a wonderful variety of metal embellishments, trinkets and charms available at Linda's shop, it's easy to find the perfect piece for your project. No matter how you decide to alter it, or even if you don't alter it at all, every project can be a little more interesting with a couple of beautiful metal additions!! I hope you enjoyed my techniques on how to make beautiful, eye-catching pieces with metal embellishments and charms.

All of the below products can be found at The Funkie Junkie Boutique and don't forget that all the metal embellishments and charms will have an extra 15% discount applied for the next two weeks.

Happy crafting, Pamellia :)
