Distress Painted Flowers

 Have you tried smooshing and painting with Distress Paints? I am in love with these techniques! It's Teri with TerisMailbox and today I will share a set of bright painted flowers on a Distress Paint background! Such yummy colors!

Create the Background

I was so excited when the older Distressed Paints were released from the vault! Being a full set syndrome girl - I ordered them all!

Start with Distress Watercolor Cardstock trimmed to A2 size. Add a few drops of Picked Raspberry, Saltwater Taffy, Wild Honey and Mustard Seed Distress Paints to your craft mat. Spritz with water and print an A2 base by pressing down onto the paints. You will have some very dark areas of paints. Add more water and allow to move and wick. Lay a second piece of watercolor cardstock on top to get a second print. Add water to both and dry with a heat tool. Note: you can dip the pieces back in the paints if you have blank spots or to add splotches.

See how pretty the background is? After the first two prints, add more water and dip and dry the final two pieces of watercolor cardstock into the paint. Use the last smoosh one more panel to use for the sentiment. Set all five aside to dry.

Stamp the Image

Select your floral images from the Bold Botanical CMS 462 set. I selected the two that remind me of daisies. Position in your stamp positioner. I was able to stamp two at once using my Medium Misti. Use Hickory Smoke Archival Ink to stamp the floral images.

Paint the Floral Image

Add a drop of each of the Distress Paints to the craft mat. Using a small paint brush, carefully paint the floral images. I love how the second layer of paint and water creates a glaze over the paint smooshed and printed background! You will not have to restamp the image as long as you are careful when painting!

Stamp the Background

The bases needed a little more interest. I used the Ledger Script Background stamp to add background texture. Create a mask to cover the floral image only so you can stamp the background. In your stamp position, center the Ledger Stamp over the image and cover the flower with the mask. Stamp the backgrounds using Hickory Smoke Archival Ink.

Create the Sentiment

Use Black Soot Archival Ink to stamp a few sentiments from the Note Quotes set. Use a circular die to cut the sentiments plus an additional circle to stack the sentiment.

Assemble the Cards

Use light grey A2 card bases. Trim the floral panel to 3.75 x 5.0 inches. Use a stronger glue to attach the panel to the base. I use Alene's Tacky Glue. Stack the sentiment circles and attach to the lower right corner of the cards!

Distress Paints + Brushstroke Flowers, Mini = A Beautiful Card

Hello and welcome back to TFJB Inspiration Ave. Today we are creating to the theme “distressed about paint”. 

For my project today I have decided to create a card with a distress paint and some fun Sizzix florals. For process video click here.

Used: Distressed paint Brushed Pewter, Squeezed Lemonade, Picket Fence, Kitch Flamingo, Shaded Lilac, Tumbled Glass and Cracked Pistachio, Distress Archival Black Soot, Idea-ology Ephemera and Bouquet Stems and CMS 430 Floral Outlines and Sizzix Brushstroke Minis.

To start off this card project, I’ve pulled in some of my favourite pastel distress colours: Squeezed Lemonade, Picket Fence, Kitch Flamingo, Shaded Lilac, Tumbled Glass and Cracked Pistachio plus a piece of Mixed Media paper.

To start, I decided to use the classic Distress Paint squish technique. Here on the Media Craft Mat I added paint droplets and then spritzed them with water from the Distress Sprayer.

Below are the results from my first swipe with the Mixed Media paper through the paint. I found that adding a dash of Picket Fence helped create some more swirly effects on the paper.

I repeated the swipe, dip and dry techniques several times before the background was completed. For drying I use the Ranger Heat tool.

To finish off the background, I stamped with some Distress Paint Brushed Pewter, using the stamp set Floral Outline CMS430. For stamping, I placed a small amount of Distress Paint directly onto the mat and then I tapped the stamp gently through. This could also be done by brayering paint on with a brayer.

Below are the finished stamping results for the background.

Next I die cut some Brushstroke Flower Minis from Distress Watercolour Cardstock with a layer of double-sided adhesive on the back.

I then coloured the die cut pieces with Distress Reinkers and a Ranger water brush.

Next, I created a landing spot for the main focal point which happens to be a fancy tea cup. I used a larger piece of Idea-ology Ephemera and into the edges with some Distress Black Soot Archival Ink. I also popped the tea cup up in the centre of this pretty butterfly paper with a few foam squares.

Then I added in all of the die cut florals around the tea cup.

After adding the die cut Florals, I noticed that I still had a few spaces that needed filling. So to cover up those gaps, I added some flowers from Idea-ology Bouquet. These I altered with some limited edition seasonal Distress Mica Spray Stains Harvest Moon, Shiny Bauble and Cocktail Party.

Then I placed those tiny flowers onto the card with a dash of Collage Medium.

For finishing touches, I added a border design of washi tape and a sentiment from the Idea-ology Clippings Sticker Book.

Lyla's Happy Place

   It's time for another new theme for the next 2 weeks; "Distressed About Paints"! Lyla leading off here once again, and if you'll remember: July is my favorite month and that usually shows up in all my creative makes during this time of year. When Linda, owner of The Funkie Junkie Boutique put out a challenge to the Design Team for using Distress Paints, I was disappointed at first because painting is not one of my best forms of art and the thought crossed my mind that this was going to be a total flop from me. But as I went through my drawer of Tim Holtz items, I realized that I use Distress Paints quite a lot more than I thought. I took that revelation further with the idea that this project didn't need to be solely Distress Paints, but the use of any DP mixed in with any type of paste medium, certainly brings any plain product up to a new level. First up: using my TH Media Trimmer to cut some matboard into a Tag-shape. I cut 2 of these; once for a front and one for a back, as is my usual.

Since I wanted to use 2 pieces from the TH Facades, I took the larger piece for measuring the size of tag I wanted. The Facade pieces would both stand out- giving me 3 'levels'.

I was super lucky to find some very old TH Adheasive Deco Sheets deep in my stash, when I was cleaning out my plastic drawers a few weeks ago! I set them aside just for this project because the adhesive-backed cloth reminded me of tough canvas I use to hold my beach stuff. I used some small-diameter rope and scrap TH Kraftstock paperie- sanded-  for some added charm. This would be the FRONT side of my tag.

Oh my! The TH Backdrops Vol.4 paperie is going fast from my stash: I LOVE it so much! It created some wording for the BACK of the Tag without adding more to the 'levels' I already had planned. This was perfected with some Oxide Inking and water spray play- till I was happy.

Then I went to work on the main upper decks, so to speak. I used some TH Ranger Opaque Grit Paste for the 'sand' and some TH Opaque Texture Paste for  the middle water and some 'clouds' up above those. You'll notice I put both TH Facade pieces situated together and being textured together. They will not be on the same level when I put the Tag altogether. (In the materials pics way up above, I show Seasonal Crypt and Grave grit pastes.  I ended up not using those simply because the Emerald Coast sand is not that dark. "my" beaches are literally the whitest sand you will see in the entire USA!)

Here comes the main theme: DISTRESS PAINTS! While I am definitely not a painter... by far, folks.... I did remember some of Bob Ross's strokes from his show and got waaay outta my box with this! I brushed a coat of DP Salty Ocean all over the "ocean" and "sky" areas, giving some swoosh marks onto the ocean and some straight line streaks in the sky. Simple enough. Then after heat drying that, I took my craft toothbrush and lightly brush stroked back and forth over the water, but heavier all over the sky. Then used the same toothbursh to 'dot paint' all over the sand. The Opaque Texture Paste is not the same white shade as the Picket Fence Distress Paint, so it gave it a speckle appearance. 

After rinsing out the toothbrush, I used it to make swooshes and streaks in the ocean with some Prize Ribbon Distress Paint and added darker aspects to the ocean, heat dried, then topped some 'white caps' on the swooshes for some bubbles on the wave tops. I hope you'll be able to see it !

Ah, but I needed some more depth to the sand and shiney to the water: TH Lost Shadow Distress Oxide all around the bottom edge of the sand, and Glossy Accents all over on  top of the water filled those needs nicely.

Cutting out some layers for the palm tree:

4 layers of Neutral Kraftstock brown for the trunk and one brown branch,

2 layers each of Cool Kraftstock's greens for the palm toppers.

I did front and back of these so the middle stock color meets; edging all the layers with Forest Moss Distress Ink and Distress Oxides in Ground Espresso and Vintage Photo. Layered with the trunk in the very middle and then the dull green on both sides (sandwiching the trunk) and then topping both outer layers with the last brighter green gives a realistic look to a palm tree. 

Time to put all the Facade pieces together to the Tag base. Tim, you really shouldda come out with extra pieces a loooong time ago! Folks, the time has come and they're available at The Funkie Junkie Boutique!!!

The last part was cutting out lettering for the title to My Happy Place, and we're done!

Suzz's Summer Fun

Hi!  Suzz here!  Summer Fun time at the Funkie Junkie Boutique Inspiration Ave means flowers for me!  We have a wide variety of flowers in our yards and I enjoy wandering around to see what has started blooming and what is getting ready to bloom.  

I love the beautiful floral trims stamp and used them to create a simple summery card.

 

The image was stamped with archival ink to make it waterproof.  I then used the watercolor pencils to color to put a layer of color on the image.  Then with the waterbrush I spread and lightened the colors to create shading.

After the first layer of red orange I added a highlight of yellow watercolor pencil.  I blended them together along with coloring the leaves of the plant. 

To finish the card I stamped a simple sentiment with black ink on the bottom right corner.  

A quick summery card to send off to a friend!

Lisa's Summer Fun

Hello Funkie Junkie fans! Lisa Hoel here. Our new theme is "Summer Fun". I always think of beach and ocean themed things as a part of 'summer' so I pulled out the Graphic 45 "Make a Splash" paper pad and started to play.

Graphic 45 papers always have so much lovely detail built into each collection. The focal designs are perfect for fussy cutting.

Here are some looks at the "in progress"

The Tim Holtz Etcetera tags and parts make perfect bases! The new Facades coordinate perfectly with the tags and add a lot of dimension.

1) First I painted the edges of the tag with purple. I cut a piece of fabric and thin quilt batting to fit the front of the tag and stitched around the edges.

2) I stitched on some scraps of lace and shell buttons before I adhered the fabric to the tag base. Then I went to town layering away.

The purple foliage I cut from some scraps of painted and heat treated Tyvek I had from this project.
