Lucky Shamrock Card

 Teri Wilson - TerisMailbox

Add Embossing to Your Die Cuts for Impact

Hi friends. It's Teri from TerisMailbox posting for The Funkie Junkie Boutique. I am sharing a Tree Rings embossed Shamock inspired by the new Heart Shaped Wood Slice Die Set.

Check out this sweet St. Patrick's Day card made with lots of layers!

I do have a YouTube video if you prefer to watch the process. (https://youtu.be/5m1XQgz0RRA)

Create the Focal Point

The focus of this card if the Embossed Shamrock. I used my Cricut to die cut large shamrocks using Kraft Cardstock. Coat the top layer of the Tree Ring Embossing Folder with Peeled Paint Archival Ink. Spritz with water, insert a piece of A2 size Kraft Paper in the folder and run through your die cut machine using the appropriate sandwich. Use Rustic Wilderness Distress Ink and a Blending Tool to add green to the edges.

Work on the Panels

Get an A2 Kraft Card base ready. Look through the Backdrops for a panel with green in it. I used a map like panel and trimmed it down. Using an A2 size Kraft Panel, stamp images from your selected Stamp Set. I used Etcetera which is an older set but there are many other appropriate sets that would work well such as Field Notes. I stamped some of the images in Lumberjack Plaid and others in Vintage Photo. Trim the stamped panel to be 1/4 inch smaller than the Background Panel. My panel ended up to be      5 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches.

Die Cut the Sentiment

I used an older sentiment die set (662684) to cut the word lucky and the shadow from green and Kraft Cardstock. Glue them together and set aside.

Assemble the Card

Attach the panels to the A2 card base with the stamped panel on top of the Backdrop Panel. Add foam tape to the back of the shamrock and add to the center at an angle. Glue the sentiment to the top right of the card and you are ready for the luck of the Irish!

Lucky Alcohol Ink Techniques

This week at TFJB Inspiration Ave blog we are creating to the theme of 'Aren’t We Lucky.' With this theme I was inspired to create a St. Patrick’s Day card using a variety of green colors.

In today’s tutorial, I will be covering a technique using Alcohol Ink and Lift Ink. For video tutorial, click here.

The supplies used: Alcohol Inks Turquoise, Stone Washed, Patina, Mermaid,  Everglade, Impresslit Lucky in Love, Distress Archival Inks Crushed Olive and Rustic Wilderness, Yupo Paper, Specialty Stamping Paper and Distress Mixed Media Paper, Stamp Set Floral Elements CMS445, Alcohol Lift Ink Reinker, Ranger Tim Holtz brayer.

To start this technique I’m going to be using a variety of Alcohol Inks, including Turquoise, Stonewashed, Patina, Mermaid, and Everglade.

I then sprinkled the alcohol inks on the Yupo paper before moving it around with the Tim Holtz Ranger Alcohol Ink Blower tool.

Below are the results of the alcohol ink on Yupo paper

Now to jump into the technique with Alcohol Lift Ink. It is important to note here that we are not using the Alcohol Ink Lifting Pad. We are instead using the Alcohol Lift Ink reinker. I also pulled in the Ranger Tim Holtz Large Black Brayer.

The next two steps are time sensitive, and must be done fairly consecutively. First run a line of the Alcohol Lifting Reinker across the top of the Yupo paper. Then quickly brayer the ink down the Yupo in an even fashion. It is very important that the ink is evenly distributed, because if it pulls too much in one place then the alcohol ink will run and smear.

Next I quickly pressed a piece of Distress Specialty Stamping Paper over the top of the Yupo paper. I didn’t move the paper down with my hand applying firm pressure. This is going to allow us to pull a print from the Yupo paper.

Here is the lifted print on the Specialty Stamping Paper. After I made the first lift, I noticed that there was still quite a bit of Lift Ink on the Yupo paper. I then went in with a piece of Distress Mixed Media Paper and pulled a second generation lift.

Below is the lifted print on the Distress Mixed Media paper.

For embellishments I’m using the Lucky in Love Impreslit folder and die cut a shamrock. I die cut the shamrock from some of the Sparkling Alcohol Ink paper and coloured a shamrock with a dash of Dandelion and Mojito alcohol inks.

Since we were able to pull a print on the Specialty Stamping Paper, we are then able to go in with some distress archival links to create a foliage style background. I stamped with Crushed Olive and Rustic Wilderness archival inks. Because we’re stamping on the Specialty Stamping Paper the stamp images are very clear and sharp. While it is possible to stamp on Yupo paper, I have found that archival ink will smudge if it’s touched too quickly and needs a certain amount of drying time for it to set. The set we are stamping with is Floral Elements CMS445.

Next, I added a frame of Design Tape from the Idea-ology line.

For the centre piece of this card, I pulled in some transparent letters from Idea-ology and attached them with a stapler.

For the last element I attached the shamrock with some foam squares.

Below is the completed card for this week’s them “Aren’t we lucky”.

Thank you so much for joining me here today for TFJB Inspiration Ave challenge. Until next time, happy crafting!

You Don't Have to be Irish to be Lucky!

"Aren't We Lucky?" is the theme for this round of makes at The Funkie Junkie Boutique's Inspiration Ave, and I can't wait to see what the rest of the Design Team comes up with on this one! There are so many ways to answer that in crafting! My first thoughts were of the color green, Irish folk, and cloverleaf/shamrocks. If you're game...I'll take you for a scroll and show you what I did!

You can use any favorite adhesive you'd like, but for me, I'm sticking with TH Multi Medium Matte, or Mod Podge Matte. The TH Accordion Folio is SO fun and easy decorate that it's hard to stop, lol! The Accordion Folio consists of a folder and an inside accordion fold out. Both pieces are generous with space and folds to create your own kind of booklet, and complete it with ribbon included for a closure. The price is SPOT ON in VALUE, so I keep a couple on hand now. I'll give you a list of products at the end of this tutorial, but I'm choosing an older TH Collage Tissue roll for just the outside folio. The Funkie Junkie Boutique has some brand-new choices coming in!

I coated the folio with Mod Podge and then gently rolled the tissue onto it. After smoothing it out to where I wanted it to reach, I gave it a topcoat of Mod Podge, covering both sides for my project to look even. After doing both the Folio folder and the Accordion page, I changed my mind- too much world map- set this Accordion aside and got out another. That's the advantage of always keeping more than one on hand,
as well as having another plan in mind for the one set aside. ;)

While getting out the new Accordion, I 'ran into' some old paper leftover from a 2021 Christmas gift make and just knew it was perfect for what I wanted.

Again, I Mod-Podged, placed, trimmed, Mod-Podged and came up with a totally different Accordion for the inside that was sure to pop how I wanted it to, I used up every bit of that scrap leftover.

I left both to dry overnight before adding anything more to it. During that time, I went ahead and finished up the other Folio  to be used for a future project. Only after it's completely dry, can you fold it back and forth to help crease the paper/Folio. Folding it up before it has completely dried may cause the paper to stick together and tear apart from the Folio when you go to unfold it to finish embellishing. So, this is a 24 hr process if you're using Mod Podge like this. The next day, I got out my sewing machine and a new spool of  bright green thread... and went to town sewing all around, inside, and outside of both pieces. I left cut threads just for the green pop of color.

Here's where I finally got the chance to try out a suggestion from Paula Cheney on her blog, One Lucky Day. (CLICK HERE if you'd like to see her Accordion Folio.) In fact, I tried out more than one thing:
swiping Distress Oxide Ink Pad (Vintage Photo) onto my Craft Sheet, spritzing it with water, then swiping all my chosen TH Ephemera items through it then heat dried all pieces. And Paula was right- aging the ephemera in this way was EASY!

I did the swiping process to every piece I wanted to use in my book, and also used my Blending Tool to pounce on more darker spots onto the middle of the pieces, as well as all around edges. I heat dried each piece and it was all ready to go!

And... another "Paula idea" I finally got to try: using my Distress Mica Spray (Christmas Set: Fresh Balsam) on a TH Stencil Card. I've had my pack of Stencil Cards for some time now, but up to now, just haven't found the perfect thing I wanted to pair it with. This one was just right for my booklet's front cover!

Making the inside cards, tags, and embellishments was like playing in Tim Holtz Land: I had a good assortment in my stash of everything! For this particular element: I added a trimmed TH Snapshot, (all pieces 'aged' as stated previously) then adhered it to an aged piece of cardstock, adding other little TH Ephemera  as well as TH Clippings Sticker Book words. I used a piece of plastic trash, trimming it to the same size as my piece of cardstock shown here, sewed some TH Ephemera  to the plastic and stapling it together at the top.

No shamrocks around? Not a problem if you've got some TH Alcohol Ink in Patina, a package of Prima Flowers...

...and some green thread twisted with a touch of Glossy Accents to keep it together, and adhered to the backside of the Prima Flower.

Here's your helpful list of links to find what you'll need to make this:
