Sunday Share

Good Sunday evening, Frilly and Funkie friends.  We're back to award a winner and to kick off another fortnight of Sunday Share.  I want to thank all of our friends who shared a beautiful piece of art with us this fortnight.  We had nine lovely players and I'm always thrilled to see pieces made with items purchased or won from The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

Without further ado, let's get to the winner!  This time random.org has chosen entry #3 - Butterfly as the winner of the 25% shopping discount.
Alison made an incredible double sided tag inspired by The Secret Garden.   You must go to her blog and see all the photos, but here are just two - front and back sides.

She used corrugated cardboard and rusty mesh from The Funkie Junkie Boutique on her project.

Thanks so much for linking up, Alison!   You can shop and receive 25% off on your entire order at The Funkie Junkie Boutique! Please email me at thefunkiejunkie@gmail.com for your coupon code.

Thanks again to all of you who linked up to this challenge.  I want to warmly invite all of you to share your art made using items from TFJ here on Sunday Share. What is Sunday Share all about? Since this blog is sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique, I want to have a place where my customers can share what they have made with items from the boutique. It's a linky party and you can share any creation here that has not been previously been shared here at Sunday Share. It does not need to be a new project but you cannot share the same thing here more than once. If you need some guidance in knowing how to share your work here, read this post and let us know if you need further assistance. To be eligible, just share with us something you have made with items from the boutique and provide a link in your post to The Funkie Junkie Boutique so others can check out all the great offerings and awesome prices!

SundayShare is currently running for two weeks, every other Sunday from 5:00 a.m. ET until midnight on Saturday night. We will do a random drawing of all the entires that week and the winner will receive a coupon to shop with a 25% discount at the shop. This is our little way of rewarding those who shop at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. What are you waiting for. I know lots of you have already purchased items from The Funkie Junkie Boutique. Link them up here - it's a great opportunity to share your work with us and you just might shop next time for 25% OFF!

Saturday Step X Step

Hello everyone! First, I must apologize to each of you... this post is very, very late but, sometimes life just works that  way... right? Anyways, better late than never. I have to tell you how excited I am that Linda is now carrying Melissa Frances products in her fabulous Zibbet shop! So, I have a tag for you featuring some of my favorite products by Melissa Frances.
To get started, using the Sizzix Tag & Bookplates Die, die cut one tag from cardstock. Cut a piece of burlap pretty close to the size of tag (see photo below). One image of your choice (mine is from Pion Designs Springtime Paper) and machine stitch around the image if desired. Cut a small piece of lace to fit the bottom of the tag. By the way, ignore the brown envelope in the top photo, I was planning on using it but, I changed my mind and now it is too dark to retake the photo.
Adhere the piece of lace  to the bottom of the tag just letting a little bit hang down from the bottom. Stamp your sentiment at the top of the tag. Using some adhesive spray, lightly spray the back of the burlap and adhere to the tag (I do not spray the whole piece, as I want some of it to stick up to achieve the look I want. Now, adhere the image as shown in the photo below.
Adhere the Melissa Frances Applique Resin Corner Embellishment in the left corner of the image. Using some Melissa Frances Zipper Ribbon, cut about a 5" piece. We are going to make the rolled flower now. You can do this one of two ways, I find it easier running a gathering stitch along the edge of the ribbon (by machine) but, you can just roll and glue too.
After you have machine stitched the longest stitch you can with your machine, pull one thread on either end of ribbon and gather until your liking, shape into flower and adhere to the bottom left corner of tag. Adhere a piece of lace into the center of ribbon flower and then a pearl into the center of lace. I am telling you, they are very, very easy to make! Adhere some Tim Holtz Chit Chat Stickers in the right bottom corner of tag.
Tie a piece of White Jute String thru the hole in the top of the tag and clip a Mini Clothespin in the center of the hole. You are now ready to enjoy your sweet little tag!

I hope you enjoyed the Step X Step!

Have a great weekend!

Tammy

Friday Focus: Burlap and Jute

Welcome back to another Friday Focus.  Linda here this week, sharing another shabby crafting product that is close to my heart - burlap.  I had some fun this week playing around with various pieces of burlap to see what I could come up with to decorate some cards.
The first thing I made was this cute tag.  I cut the burlap and a kraft tag separately with a Spellbinders die (simply because the Spellbinders don't cut through two layers) and then glued the burlap to the kraft with Claudine Hellmuth Multi Medium Matte. Then I cut snowflakes with my Mini Snowflakes Movers and Shapers die from felt and burlap.  The burlap for the snowflake was cut from a piece that I had brushed the reverse side with Multi Medium Matte which keeps it from falling apart.  The burlap in my shop is pretty stiff and has been treated with something to keep it from fraying, but when I die cut it, and the die cut has very small parts, I like to reinforce it with the MMM.
Then from the same piece of reinforced burlap, I die cut this Carved Ornament and gave it a bit of gold gilding by brushing on some Gold Paint Dabber and also painted my white corrugated cardboard snowflakes with gold paint dabber too.

Next up is a flower cut with the Tattered Florals die.  This burlap was not reinforced, plus I treated it a little roughly by crunching it all up and unfurling it carefully.  I painted a couple of layers with gesso to give it more of a rustic look and add some contrast to the layers.
Next up a pine tree cut from reinforced burlap and given a sprinkling of snow with gesso.
For the next few pieces, I cut a stencil using Tim Holtz Mask Sheets and Movers and Shapers dies (be sure to save your die cuts to use for masking on other projects).  For this one, I arranged the two Mini Tattered Florals dies and one Mini Butterfly die and passed the masking sheet through my die cutting machine.  Then I moved the mask sheet and passed it through a second time to get the next three cuts.  Then I used the stencil to stipple gesso onto the burlap, moving the stencil one time to stencil the next three shapes.
I followed the same procedure for this white-on-white piece.  I also sprinkled the wet gesso with some of the new Clear Rock Candy Distress Stickles Dry Glitter, but unfortunately the camera didn't pick up the sparkles.
Love this wide red burlap ribbon which is new in the boutique.  It worked beautifully with the snowflake stencil and gesso.

Hope you enjoyed this burlap tutorial.  The entire Burlap/Jute section of The Funkie Junkie Boutique is on sale 15% off this week for Friday Focus.  Check it out - there are so many jute ribbons, burlap thread, burlap ribbon, etc.  Stock up for your holiday crafting while I still have a good supply of all these products.

Let me know if you have any questions on these techniques.  Have a crafty weekend!

All of these products used are available at The Funkie Junkie Boutique:

Week One of the Challenge
Welcome back Frilly and Funkie friends.  Thanks to Anita for her fun and interesting Renaissance Men challenge and thanks to all of you who played along.  We're back again with a new challenge that we hope will inspire your creativity.

Linda here hosting this week.  I love using textiles in my art and canvas is such a fun and versatile fabric to use. You can die cut it, emboss it, dye it by spraying or dipping. You can use it in its raw state, coat the reverse side with gesso or multi medium to prevent fraying or use the sticky back kind. You can stamp on it and make embellishments (flowers :) with it. Oh, so many fun ways to use it in our art. How are you going to use canvas for this challenge?

Linda Coughlin - The Funkie Junkie

Tammy Roberts - Paperie Sweetness

Sue Carrington - Stamping Sue Style

Teresa Kline-Paperie Blooms

Renaissance Men Challenge Winners

Thanks for stopping in today to check out our winners from the Renaissance Men challenge that closed last week.  Kudos to Anita Houston for hosting such a fun and interesting challenge.  All of the pieces that were entered really were works of art this time and we thoroughly enjoyed feasting our eyes on them as we visited your blogs.

We've put our heads together and come up with a winner for the Funkie Favorite award for this challenge and it is Anna Christensen with this amazing piece of art:
Anna really brought in so many different images and has created this wonderful compilation in a Fresco/stylised working drawing style.  She totally captured the spirit of this challenge.  Congratulations Anna on being our Funkie Favorite for this challenge.

And wait, there's still another winner.  Random.org has selected entry #9 WendyLynn of WendyLynn's Paper Whims as the winner of the $25 gift certificate to shop at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.  Congratuations WendyLynn.
Both winners, please email Linda at thefunkiejunkie@gmail.com for your winning item.
