Janna's Snowy Day Card

Today for TFJB Inspiration Ave we are creating to the theme of “A Snow Day”. Here I wanted to feature two different ways to create snow with Distress products.

To see a full process video, click here.

Supplies used: Sizzix Reindeer sleigh, Distress Glitter, Distress Spray Stain Chipped Sapphire, Distress Sprayer, Distress Glaze Rustic Wilderness, Distress Watercolor Cardstock, Distress Texture Paste Snowfall, Distress Embossing Dabber, Ranger heat tool, Stencil THS021, Alcohol Ink Dura-Lar, Idea-ology Label Sticker and Design Tape, Idea-ology Tiny Attacher, and Collage Medium.

To start our wintery background I began with some Distress Watercolor Cardstock and then spritzed it with water. After I added a few spritzes of Distress Spray Stain Chipped Sapphire.

Next I dipped and dried to build up distressed layers with the Distress Sprayer and Ranger Heat Tool.

For our first type of snow I spread a bit of collage Medium onto the base of the card to make hillsides. Then I sprinkled Distress Glitter over the top for scintillating snow. I then let the base dry for about 10 minutes.

Next we will be stamping some bottle brush trees (CMS455) on some Dura-Lar cut down to 5.5x4.25in.

I stamped the trees directly onto the bottom half of the Dura-Lar using the Distress Embossing Ink Dabber. Initially the ink is difficult to see, but can be made visible by tilting the Dura-Larat an angle.

Next I slid a piece of paper under the substrate before dusting some Rustic Wilderness Distress Glaze over the top. Any excess glaze was brushed off with a paintbrush.

Then I heated and embossed with the Sizzix embossing heat gun.

For our second snowy technique I pulled out the stencil THS021 and spread Texture Paste Snowfall through it on the Dura-Lar This gives us a beautiful icy snow. The texture paste took about 15 min to dry.

Going back to our base layer, it is now time to add the main focal point. For the focal point I used the Sizzix die cut set Reindeer Sleigh. I die cut the deer and sleigh out of Distress Heavy Black Kraft Stock.

Since these deer can be layered I added an icy highlight to the second layer of deer with a Distress Mica Crayon Frozen Fog before gluing down the layer.

Next I attached the layer of Dura-Lar over the top of the Watercolor Cardstock with the Idea-ology Tiny Attacher.

For finishing touches I added a blue scalloped boarder of Idea-ology Decorative Tape and a Holiday Label Sticker.

Below is the complete card.

Thank you so much for joining me here today for TFJB Inspiration Ave. Until next time, happy crafting!

I printed out a few favorite Christmas music sheets after sizing them on my computer to fit on a TH Mini Etcetera Tag. You can also just use a copy machine, but this way saves it as made.

I also wanted my sheets double-sided so I did some cloning to make the same coloring to the backside.  I'm using regular white cardstock to print onto.

Here, you see the finished backsides, slighly wider than the front-sided music.

After printing the cardstocks, I also sized and printed a couple more Christmas song sheets. These were printed on regular cream-colored paper. I used my TH Rotary Trimmer to cut each the same size.

I adhered the cardstocks to each side of the Etcetera Tags, and made a song book of the paper prints by doubling them up so each page had a song. The top sheet of each side was going to be a clone of the cardstock - to look like a 'stack' of music sheets.

I sprayed some of the new TH Mica Spray and then dragged the Etcetera Tag through it on all the edges only... Juniper Berry on the BACK and Fresh Balsam on the FRONT.

I crinkled both top sheets and gave them a Distress Ink job, to age them. This is FRONT...

... and this is BACK.

Lastly, for the backgrounds of the Tags, I dry-brushed Picket Fence Distress Paint lightly onto all of the music sheets just in the center bottoms.

I looked up Tim's helpful video as a guide to the Trim A Tree Thinlits Die Set (CLICK HERE for VIDEO)
I take screen shots of the main ideas to help me later on remember how to assemble it again.

I made two different trees- in slightly different shades of green.

I did use the same Pine Needles Distress Oxide on both trees, and also some Vintage Photo Oxide.

This die set is "Da BOMB"!! It's so FUN to make and the dies are so EASY on the fingers! Heat-drying is the most fun of all - the tree just spreads out all by itself!

Instead of the pot set that comes with the Trim A Tree Dies, I chose to make the trunk and had a few ready-made 'planks'.

To rust these new TH Bells (the 2023 sets have new cute "sleigh bells" in the sets!):
1) Use Alcohol Ink in Ginger- all over bells.
2) Dab Distress Paint in Walnut Stain (or darker) and then
3) Dip into Distress Embossing Powder and Heat Dry,
4) Repeat process until happy dancing happens.

I decided to use the TH Candleshop Thinlits Die Set once again. It was the perfect look for "Silent Night" on the BACK. (CLICK HERE for the tutorial on making the Candleshop candle on my last project.)

The Christmas Tree on the FRONT needed a couple of TH Victorian Carolers (retired) cut from TH Blackout.

Some added IdeaOlogy and TFJB charms with TH Paper Dolls and an old, rusted star from stash... the finishing touches!

And here's what I finished with...

Fun in the snow for the whole family!

After caroling, this family goes out to choose the perfect tree for their home.

Suzz's Season of Gratitude

Hi!  The seasons are changing rapidly here as is the weather.  Thanksgiving is just around the corner.  It is this time of year we count our blessings and express our gratitude.  I decided to play around with the Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz Sketchy leaves to capture the fall feeling and then paired it with a simple sentiment around the sweet life.

I started with a series of leaves stamped in various styles.  I used one of the leaves as my focal point on this card.  I love the idea of showing gratitude in recognizing how sweet life can be.  This card used a spritzed background layered with some mummy cloth (died to coordinate) with a leaf cut out along with a few simple embellishments.

I created a few other card bases using the sketchy leaves.

They were stamped using versamark watermark ink on the white background.  Then they were clear embossed.  After that then a mix of red, orange, and yellow dye inks were sponged over the embossed surface.
Then to finish them off a dry piece of paper towel was used to buff off the excess ink from the images.  This made them shine brightly against the beautiful fall colors.

I actually stamped and embossed the leaves on a variety of surfaces including an alcohol ink background.
