I started this jumbo tag using the Tim Holtz marbled stains technique which you can find on page 46 of the Compendium of Curiosities volume II.
I decided to use shades of blue as I took my inspiration from tag no. 3 of Linda's 12 tags of Christmas.
There are so many gorgeous pieces in the Filigree metals collection and here are just some of them.
Once I'd done the marble technique, which I need more practice at!, I then took 2 of the Filigree snowflakes and pressed embossing ink on to them and covered them with white EP.
The snowflakes transform beautifully once the EP has melted. Just remember as these are metal they will still be hot for a while after you've used the EP, as I found out the hard way !
I then stuck white Claudine Hellmuth sticky back canvas to some Grunge Paper and cut the letters to make the word snow using the Wordplay die.
I then used a Dyan Reavely stencil and sponged white acrylic paint over it. This is the first stage in a technique called 'bumping' which I was very fortunate to have learnt at a recent workshop with the uber talented Lin Brown.
The second stage to this technique is to move the stencil slightly and then sponge more acrylic paint in a different colour over the top. What you're left with is a shadow around the second colour. I think you can just about see it on the below photograph.
I also stamped some snowflakes from an Artistic Outpost using white acrylic paint over the whole tag. The wire mesh has also been given the white EP treatment. The deer is cut from white canvas on Grunge Paper and the word is also stamped on the same thing.
Here are a couple more examples of using these gorgeous filigree metals.
The above card used the Filigree metal as a focal point of the card. I've used Crinoline as one of the layers which has been painted with watered down acrylic paint and then stamped with Coffee Archival ink.
The Filigree flower is great as an alternative to fabric or paper flowers and in the example above I've used it as the layer below a metal button.
