Saturday Step X Step - Pion Birthday Greetings

Hello Everyone! Glad you dropped in to Frilly and Funkie today. Pamellia here with my Saturday Step by Step. I have put together a lovely spring Birthday card using my two two biggest loves in my craft room right now, Pion Design Papers and mixed media products, and they are all available at Linda's shop The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

For this card I used the following dies and punches: Sizzix Bookplates and Tag, Sizzix Tag Collection, Sizzix Fall Foliage, Prima Crochet Doily and Sizzix Large Butterfly Punch.

I cut a large tag out using the Pion Design Day in May collection and made a white backing layer. I cut a couple of medium tags and background panels using the Pion Design Paris Flea Market collection. The ones I don't use this time around I will put to good use later!

I cut a bookplate using some white corrugated cardboard, then framed a birthday greeting from the Pion Design Day in May collection.

I added a touch of Picket Fence Crackle Paint to the layers for a bit of texture then spritzed on some Shabby Shutters Distress ink spray.

I antiqued all the pieces with Archival ink Coffee and rubbed a little Gathered Twigs Distress ink into the cracks of the crackle paste texture.

I coloured some seam binding with Distress inks Antique Linen and Victorian Velvet to use for my bow. I cut out some leaves and coloured them with Shabby Shutters and Gathered Twigs.

I assembled all of the panels using Foam Squares to give the card a little dimension. I added my seam binding bow and a May Arts Twine bow along with some of the gorgeous new flowers that Linda is carrying in the shop. A little lace and a small sentiment to finish the feminine look.

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial . Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions. There's still time to enter our current challenge "HIP TO BE SQUARE", hope to see your there!

Thanks for stopping in! Hugs, Pamellia :)

If you would like to try some of these wonderful products, they are available at The Funkie Junkie Boutique:

Friday Focus

Hi everyone, Linda here. I wanted to take a moment to give you a heads up on some happenings with The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

It's been very busy these last few months with all the pre-orders generated from the new products released at Winter 2014 CHA. This is the first year I have offered so many pre-order options and it's been a juggling act for me to coordinate mailing all the products as they arrived. Most of the products have come into stock but a few are still outstanding. If you have any questions on products that you have not received, please feel free to email me at thefunkiejunkie@gmail.com. I will check on the status of your pre-ordered product and get back to you.

The big news is that The Funkie Junkie Boutique is growing. It’s gotten to the point where the boutique has outgrown my home-based business. I have just signed a lease for commercial space and will be moving the shop into its new home and will be hiring a part-time employee. I want to assure you that while TFJB is growing that I do not have my sights set on becoming a super store. I love being a boutique that focuses on providing a fun and funkie range of crafting products and an enjoyable shopping experience as well as catering to individual customer service. My growth and expansion will help me serve you better!

This expansion comes with a down side and that is that I will be closing for a couple of weeks. I thought it was a good time to take a few days off and then will be closed for inventory shifting and organizing in the new space. The Boutique will not take any orders after midnight Eastern Time on May 1st through May 16th. The website will reopen on May 16th for you to start placing orders again and orders will begin shipping (first come/first served) on May 19th. Please be assured that if you have any questions or issues with an order during the time I am closed, you can email me at thefunkiejunkie@gmail.com. I get the emails on my phone and will respond to your inquiry in a timely manner.

As a result of this the usual Friday Focus posts will be missing from our Frilly and Funkie weekly schedule for a couple of weeks, but they will be back on May 16th in time for The Boutique re-opening.

It's going to be an exciting few months here at The Funkie Junkie Boutique and I look forward to serving you in the future.

Linda

Friday Focus - Stencils

Hello Everyone!  Welcome to another Friday Focus at Frilly and Funkie!  We're so happy that you joined us!  Donna here and today I'm going to talk about stencils.  The Funkie Junkie Boutique has a fantastic selection of stencils

Stencils are so versatile...you can use them with spray ink, ink pads, markers, pens, chalks and molding paste!  You can use the whole design, part of the design or reverse the design by using the stencil from the front or back side!

I created a couple of projects using stencils that I hope will inspire you!  The tag below was created by applying distress ink, with an ink blender tool, through stencils.  The base tag was tinted with Antique Linen distress stain.  I started from the bottom using the Luscious Leaves stencil to create the grass field.  Then I inked both trees using the Oh Christmas Tree stencil.  I also inked the main part of the tree twice again on a separate piece of paper so that I could add dimension by popping up a second layer on the trees.  Next I added the flowers along the edge with the Dotted Flowers stencil.  The last step was to blend in the sky and ink the edges with Gathered Twigs distress ink!  I've always used stencils to create backgrounds so this is the first time I've created an entire tag design using just stencils and an ink blender.  I love the soft finish that results from blending ink through the stencils.  I'll be using this technique again!!

On this second piece I used the Artistic Outpost stamp set, Sleigh Ride, that I just ordered from The Funkie Junkie Boutique!  It's not too early for a Winter/Christmas card is it??!!  I started with a white card and used distress ink to blend in the sky.  Then I added embossing paste through the Let It Snow stencil to add the snowflakes.  In hindsight I wish I had mixed some white paint with the embossing paste first so the snowflakes would pop more.  I rubbed a little Distress Stickles on them after the embossing paste dried to add a little sparkle!

This next piece was made a while back but it was one of the first pieces I made where I ventured into using stencils.  After I inked the background and stamped the tag it just seemed like it needed  something more.  So I used an Adirondack Paint Dabber in Snow Cap and the Diamond Border stencil to add the diamonds.  I remember being very nervous about doing this because the tag was essentially finished and I didn't want to ruin it.  But I was really happy with the result!  It shows how just a spot or two of stenciling can add so much interest to a background!

And finally I'll share a two-sided tag that I made in a class that I took with Dyan Reaveley.  On the first image you can see in the background how we spritzed the Dylusions sprays through the Diamond Border and Dotted Flowers stencils.  On the backside of the tag we flipped over the stencil while it was still covered with the Dylusions sprays and this resulted in the reverse image.  Such a cool technique and it makes the most of those spray inks!!

I hope you enjoyed this Friday Focus!  Don't forget that stencils are now an additional 15% off of The Funkie Junkie Boutique's already low prices!!  So click that link and order some new stencils to add to your stash!

The following items can be found at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.  The boutique offers it's merchandise at up to 20% off of the typical retail price so check it out!!
