Layered Idea-ology Holiday Display

Hello again friends. It's Teri with Teris Mailbox. I had soooo much fun creating this fun holiday layered piece for The Funkie Junkie Boutique! You can win a $25.00 gift card by using Idea-ology Christmas Products and tagging The Funkie Junkie Boutique. Start by Creating the Pieces

I started with the Mini Etcetera Tag and the Etcetera Cathedral Window and Brackets. A good coat of white Gesso allows for the addition of the Holiday Collage Paper and Grit Paste Snowfall later on.

Once dry, I coated the tag with Collage Medium and applied a piece of the Christmas Noel Collage Paper to cover the base and set aside to dry.

This piece has many components all created separately. The Woodland Tree from the Woodland Tree Lot was sprayed with Rustic Wilderness Spray Stain and set aside to dry. Note I did trim the back section so it would lie closer to the background. Once dry I dabbed Collage Medium on assorted branches and applied Mica Flakes.

The Santa and Snowman was painted and colored with acrylic paint from my stash along with a few touches of Copic Markers. The deer was painted with acrylic paint from my stash.


After the first failure trying to paint the figures while holding them, I recoated with white Gesso, let dry and then attached them with hot glue to the tops of embossing powder jars. This allowed me to rotate the figures and coat with the paint. Once dry, I added a few touches of alcohol ink with my Copic Markers. A quick coat of Collage Medium and dusting with Glitter complete the look! Once they were dry, the figures popped right off the lids.

The cathedral window was also coated with Collage Medium and coated with Mica Flakes and Glitter.

Let's Assemble the Piece


Collage Medium is perfect for attaching all the various layers. I created a shelf with the Cathedral Window above using Collage Medium. I added Snowfall Grit Paste with a coat of glitter on the shelf top.


I removed the base from the tree and folded the wire up through the back. I created a hole through the base to thread the tiny lights through and wrapped the string around the tree. I used hot glue to attach the tree, snowman, deer and Santa to the shelf.

The Christmas Noel Label Stickers added small sentiment focal points. 

Last up is dying the Rayon Seam Binding to create the bow. I used the Tart Cranberry Mica Spray Stain.


You just can't avoid inky fingers in this process!


I've been collecting Tim Holtz Ephemera for years. I dug these pieces out of my stash. I coated the token with Picket Fence Crayon and rubbed it in. The star has drops of alcohol ink for shine. I threaded the jingle bells onto wire and threaded it through the bow. Last to be added is the pin with the star and token.

I created a holder for the tiny light control and hot glued it onto the back of the tag.

Play with the new Distress Ink Products

 Hello friends! I'm back with another Decor piece. This time a Vignette Box decorated for Winter.


So much fun to use the new Sizzix Dies Twigs and Stump to create this fun scene!

Start with the Vignette Box. Tim demoed a woodgrain box using the new Holiday Woodgrain Grey Cardstock on the exterior of the box. I followed suit using collage medium to attached the trimmed pieces. Another coat of Collage Medium and a dusting with my Glitter Duster and Rock Candy Glitter and it is ready to go!


Check out the background! White snowmen would be lost in the snowstorm! I used the new Mica Distress Spray Winter Frost to add some texture to the background. I have better luck flicking the tube to get splatter. After splattering, I added some water and let it wick.


Panels were created using Distress Watercolor Paper and the Mica Set #3 Tart Cranberry and Winter Frost. I also used Flickering Candle Mica Spray from last year's release. Rustic Wilderness was used to create the green for the tree. I sprayed, spritzed and dried the layers on both sides to achieve the colors I wanted.

Next up is the die cutting!

Prior to die cutting the trees, I ink blended Rustic Wilderness on the panel to give it some depth. I stitched two trees together to add dimension.

I used white heavyweight cardstock to cut the snowman bases and cut the baubles, scarfs and hats using the Mica Distress Inked pieces.

The sign and the snowman arms were cut from Distress Woodgrain Cardstock that I ink smooshed and layered with Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain Inks.

The extra snowflakes are die cut from white heavyweight Cardstock with Collage Medium and Glitter for sparkle.


Using Collage Medium, I glued the layers on the snowmen and then onto the box to create a scene.  After all the pieces were added, it was time for it to snow. I used the new Snowfall Grit Paste coated with glitter! This paste was so much fun to apply on the scene bottom and in between the tree layers.

I decided I needed a red bow, so i cut a piece of Rayon Seam binding and sprayed it with the Tart Cranberry and achieved a nice dark red color.


Check out the very inky fingers!  I found two jingle bells in my ephemera stash that I treaded onto a wire and attached to the newly tied bow. My hot glue gun was perfect to attach the bow to the top of the panel.

Saturday Showcase - Stampers Anonymous Floral Outlines Stamp

Hello fellow Junkies. It's Teri with TerisMailbox here, sharing a product for The Funkie Junkie Boutique. As soon as Tim released The Floral Outlines stamp, I was smitten. Today I am sharing six different cards, all using the Floral Outlines Stamp.


I have a video here documenting the process.


I'll run through photos of the six cards and link the products below each one.


This is the easiest technique. Simply use your ink pads to ink up the various colors on the leaves and blooms, spritz with water and stamp on Distress Watercolor paper. Lightly spritz a second time and stamp in another area. Splatter the ink on the background, choose a sentiment and attach to an A2 cardbase.

This card started with ink smooshing on Distress Watercolor Paper using Bundled Sage Distress Ink. Stamp the floral image with Black Archival ink and watercolor the floral images to add color depth.


Use the ledger stamp to add texture to the background using The Peeled Paint Mini Archival Ink Pad. Stamp the sentiment with Peeled Paint and mount on an A2 cardbase.

Here is a different take on watercolor stamping, smooshing and water coloring. Use the Distress Ink pads as in the first example to ink the stamp up and spritz with water and stamp onto Distress Watercolor Paper. Spray water over the image and lit the inks wick. Once dry, watercolor the images with Distress Inks (colors listed below). Ink smoosh the background with Shaded Lilac Distress Ink.


Stamp the sentiment and add to an A2 card base. A little black bling adds a fun touch.

I switched over to Alcohol Inks for this card. After stamping the Floral Images on a heavy Vellum using Jet Black Archival Ink, I laid the piece on my glass mat and added Mushroom Alcohol Ink and worked it around the blooms as well as I could.


I used several warm color Alcohol Inks from my stash as well as Moss Alcohol Ink to paint the floral images. The alcohol and the inks did make the image run slightly. Next time, I'll try to paint on the reverse side to preserve the stamp outlines. Stamp the sentiment and add to an A2 cardbase.

Here is another simple card. After ink smooshing and drying the background, Stamp the sentiment and the floral image with Archival Ink.


Mount on an A2 card base and you are good to go.

This card is all stamping and had so much texture, I decided not to add a sentiment. This cards starts with another stamped image similar to the first card. I did spritz more water and let the stamp sit on the Watercolor paper so it spread a little.


I ink smooshed around the image and dried the piece. Using the Ledger Stamp, I added texture to the background. I also added ink to the edges for additional depth.

Saturday Showcase - Tim Holtz Sizzix Flower Field Die

Hello friends. It's Teri from TerisMailbox here spotlighting the 'Flower Fields' Die from Tim Holtz and Sizzix for The Funkie Junkie Boutique. I admit to be addicted to all things Tim Holtz. This die has become a new favorite!

Check out the variety of techniques on all five cards!

I started by watercoloring two different cards using watercolor techniques. The first card uses the border as a watercolored die-cut piece.

Check out the dimension achieved by layering an additional die cut below the water-colored piece! I used distressed ink reinkers to color the die cut and smooshed the background with Tumbled Glass and Speckled Egg Distress inks.

Colors used include Wilted Violet, Mustard Seed, Spun Sugar, Bundled Sage, Peeled Paint and Abandoned Coral inks for the flowers.


After gluing the die cut watercolor piece to the smooshed background, I mounted the watercolor piece on an A2 hotdog  cardstock base. The sentiment is from Stampers Anonymous 'Nature's Wonder' stamp set that I thought completed this card well.

The second card is also water-colored, this time using an embossed image. Check out this soft willowy image!


This card started with the die embossed onto a piece of watercolor paper. I added the same colors of ink listed above to the embossed areas on the paper. I filled in the sky with Tumbled Glass Distress Inks and spritzed the paper and let the colors move.


Check out how soft the colors are after they spread!  If you look closely, you can see a faint outline on the flowers and grass, This was achieved by using a brayer to apply Hickory Smoke Distress ink directly to the die and re-embossing the piece. I love how it just spotlights the flowers!


The sentiment is from Stampers Anonymous 'Tiny Text' Stamp. I love these sets for the variety of sentiments for all occasions! I stamped it on a strip of watercolor paper and applied to the front of the piece. The embossed piece is mounted on an A2 cardbase.

In addition to these cards, I created three other cards using backgrounds from my stash. Do you make backgrounds and save for "just the right card"? Once I get going with a background technique, I tend to make several and find just the right opportunity to use them at a later date.

I used two alcohol ink backgrounds for the first two cards.


Check out the shine on this card! The background is Ranger orange and yellow alcohol inks with gold spotlights from gold Thermoweb Deco Foil applied while still wet. The floral border was cut from gold cardstock and applied over the alcohol ink piece.


The sentiment is from the Stampers Anonymous 'Tiny Text' Stamp by Tim Holtz, embossed in gold on black cardstock. Black cardstock frames this piece beautifully.

I love the elegant look of this card!


This card is also on a Ranger alcohol ink base, this time with rainbow hues. The alcohol inks spread so well on Ranger Yupo Paper. 


Check out the brillance created from the combination of the bright alcohol inks mounted on black cardstock and topped with the 'Flower Field' Die cut from black cardstock. The sentiment is from the Stampers Anonymous Tiny Text Stamp by Tim Holtz, white heat embossed on a strip of black cardstock.

The final card today used ink smooshing. I love to ink smoosh. This background uses Dusty Concord and Bundled Sage Distress inks on watercolor paper. 


This color combo is one of my favorites!  The 'Flower Field' Die was cut from Dusty Concord ink smooshed watercolor paper and mounted on the base.


There is that same sentiment from 'Tiny Text', this time stamped on watercolor paper and popped up with additional strips of cardstock. The watercolor base is mounted on an A2 cardstock base.
