StepxStep - Altered Frame

Welcome to another StepXStep, it's Sue here and I have an altered frame to share with you. Grab a cuppa and get comfy as there's lots to share !

I've recently come back from a weeks holiday and we managed to spend a couple of days at the coast. The sun was shining, which here in the UK is a rarity ! Seeing all of the beach huts gave me the inspiration for this piece.

I started with a plain wooden frame.

I painted the frame with white acrylic paint and then with blue acrylic paint.

I used the PaperArtsy Crackle Glaze and then painted over the top with white acrylic paint.

I wanted to created a row of beach huts so to do this I used this stamp and masked part of it using decorators masking tape.

Once I'd got a row of huts I then cut them out.

I used Distress Markers to paint the beach huts by scribbling on my craft mat and picking up the ink using a watercolour paint brush.

For the background I used Distress Inks and then I used a stencil and blended Peacock Feathers Distress Ink over the top.

I stamped the flourishes in the corners using Peacock Feathers Distress ink. I then stamped using white acrylic paint. I did some further stamping using Archival black ink and some more Peacock Feathers. The images were stamped with Archival black ink and then I blended more Distress Ink around the edges. The letters were all cut using the Tim Holt WordPlay die and I've stamped onto them and then blended Distress Ink over them .

For the flower I used the Tim Holtz Tattered Flowers die. I learnt how to make these flowers from the fabulous Lin Brown. The flower is cut from metal and then using a metal working wheel I've drawn lines from the centre to the outside edge of the leaves.

I then used alcohol inks Pool and Sail Boat Blue to colour the flower.

I also used a little Blending Solution to blend the colours together.

The two filigree corners have been distressed using black acrylic paint and then I used white acrylic paint over the top.

For the centre of the flower I used a bottle cap that I coloured with alcohol inks. The centre of the bottle cap is a punched circle that I've stamped and then blended Distress Ink over and then added an epoxy sticker. To finish I've added some shells that we brought back from the beach !

I hope you've managed to stay awake and see it through to the end !
