Guest Designer - Amelia Breytenbach

Say hello to our Guest Designer for the Christmas Cards in July challenge.  Amelia Breytenbach was the winner of the Tickled Pink challenge and can be found at her blog, Stamped for the Occasion where she brings us some lovely fresh inspiration for the challenge.

Hello, my name is Amelia. I am so delighted to feature in the guest designer post on The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog – it is such an honour. I live with my husband and 2 cats in Pretoria, South Africa. I am a librarian at a large residential university for the past 40 years now, but when I am at home I keep myself busy with card making. Since blogging and participating in card challenges,I met so many wonderful friends around the world who are sharing my passion.

I would describe my style as a mixture of shabby, vintage and sometimes cute elements. I like experimenting with new crafting tools and products and using the older stash with new products is very challenging for me. I started my blog, "Stamped for the Occasion", in February 2010 and since then love to share my card making passion with the world. For the challenge “Christmas in July” I decided to make a shabby card in non-traditional Christmas colours.

I added two layers of designer paper to the base card to create depth. The different layers were distressed with a distress tool and then aged with distress ink for a shabby vintage look.

I chose a lovely deer die cut as my focal point and decorated it with a wreath, a tiny bow and rose bud. For dimension I lifted the deer from the base card with mirror tape.

To add some texture I used a strip of vintage lace to the bottom and a string of pearls to the top of the card. I covered a die cut music note border strip with gold texture paste and layered it on the lace. The finishing touches were a few pearls, leaves, flowers and wax cord bows.

I always like to decorate the inside of my cards as well with some of the elements featured on the outside. For this card I repeat the music note border, leaves and pearls at the bottom of the card inside.

You can find more pictures and project details of the card on my blog. Thank you for asking me to join the “Christmas in July” challenge as the featured guest designer – your challenges always inspire me.
